I, personally, place them in the \Windows root directory. nursemm05 may have some more details on how to do it by placing them on the storage card.

sadly I don't. I did the reg edit way back in Aug then when I did a hard reset I searched for the hack and couldn't find it. Luckily my phone recognized all sounds on storage card so I didn't need it.

Do you have them in a specific directory so I can try? A hard reset should have wiped out the registry edit unless it is embedded on a custom ROM. Are you using a custom ROM?

Extensions can be MP3 or WMA. If you want to use an MP3 file as an SMS/E-mail/Voicemail notification it MUST be in the \Windows root directory.

thanks for this, worked like a charm!

Re: how do i change sounds of sms?

I found out that if u move ur ringtones to application data/sounds it works better, if u have it in the ringtones folder u cant change ringtone for messaging to custom ringtone, ALSO NOTE::: U CANNOT STOP THE MESSAGING RINGTONE!!! SO I suggest u use something very small like 3 of 4 seconds, I myself have "message" from Dont be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood

I open the file explorer, open storage card and place them there. Yes I am currently using a custom ROM but this is a new thing for me... before when I was using the stock Sprint ROM I still had the same results. The only thing I can think of is after the hard reset the card was in place and the phone recognized the sounds then.
