Novii Remote DID work on the xv6700. It was powerful enough but the IR had a narrow spectrum, meaning you had to aim just right to hit the IR port on the TV/VCR/DVD/etc...

Actually, that implies the 6700 IR port was not very powerful - it was not powerful enough to have the receiver pick up the remote from the reflections off the walls and what-not; it had to see the source. Every true remote I've ever used works just fine off-bore because of that - the remote is powerful enough that the reflections off, say, the opposite wall can be read by the receiver.

Obviously, this won't work on some wall colors and materials.

Also, back in the day, it used to be that you could run an IR transfer across at least 6 feet of open space in a well-lit room; nowadays the devices have to be next to one another, almost touching.

Man it would be so cool if there was an ap like this working for the mogul. At work there are several tvs with no remote (hidden) and would be awesome if I could just whip out my phone and change the channels that way.

My ipaq had nevo on it. It was so awesome... I used to mess with every TV I saw out in public. Maybe we can rip that out of the ipaq and see if it will work with the titan hardware? The link to some screenshots.

http://www.mynevo.com/html.php?page_id=5

Only problem is they don't offer a download, and it is embedded in my ipaq's rom.

I tried TV Remote Controller on the 6800 and it didn't work. The program opened, but when you press any button, it exits. This program would be great since you can make your own themes making the upside-down aspect less of an issue.

Oh well. That's what I keep my g1000 around for - dedicated remote control / party camera.
After people leave, I just pop out the SD card and put it in my digital picture frame. Good times.

I tried a few different TV remote programs on my 6600 a couple of years ago. They "worked" but were virtually useless because of the weak IR signal. You had to be just about close enough to the TV that you could change the channel/volume manually.

seriously guys. while it is nice to have such a convergent device, if you really want to have a cool universal remote, just go on ebay and get any older pocket pc 2002/2003 pda. $30 and a little hunting for remote profiles or remote software that lets you use your own buttons will blow any harmony or similar $70+ universal remote out of the water, and since you are not using it for much else, and it can be docked to an regular outlet instead of your pc when you are not updating it, you will almost never have to worry about the battery.

it seems apperent to me they design the IR on these phones weak on purposes. I mean typical use for IR on a phone would be to send a file, not changing a channel... so you don't want the signal beaming all over the place like a typical remote does... that's just not secure...

Anyway that said I had navii on my ppc-6700 and it worked well. its worth having a universal remote on ur phone even with its weak IR signal... well maybe not worth it if your paying for it. I was usually able to use it from a confortable distance.... but in no way am I suggesting it should replace a real remote... just fun and convient to have.
