I may be wrong, but I dont think the stock email program supports IMAP idle ( It supports just plain IMAP) so if you want the email to "push" to you, you will need a program like flexmail that supports idle. So basically gmail via imap will work with outlook mible, but not with push.

i don't have IMAP yet on my gmail account, but i wish under POP settings one of the options was "mark as read" when i pull the e-mails up on my phone. i'd rather not archive and definitely not delete.

I've been using it for a week with IMAP and It's OK but nothing to brag about. I've grown to like the gmail.com interface but it's nice to have both, I guess.

A dumb question, with IMAP or direct push, do you have to keep data connection alive all the time? I tried mail2web and I had to stay connected all the time.

Anyone has problems viewing html emails when using IMAP?

If I set up the account with POP, they display fine but with IMAP it's just a bunch of jibberish.

If you see IMAP in the options (it should already be selected) then you already have it. If you don't, then log onto your gmail address another time to check.

If you have it, then here is a link with the settings:

https://mail.google.com/support/bin/...n&answer=75726

Now, delete your Gmail account from your phone. Then create a new account. Do not select Gmail as account type at the beginning of the setup. Just an email account. If you select Gmail you will not get the IMAP option.

Use the settings at the link I provided and you'll be good to go.

You can also use gmail with the mobile java midlet from google.com/gmm.
I have it installed with the Risodoro "Tao Intent" midlet host and it works quite well. The newest version of the midlet host even allows the security to be set to "always allow" data access.
