ThunderBolt Rooted!

I can't take credit for any of their work but if anyone is interested in gaining root for your shiny new TB you may want to checkout the work going on over at the XDA development forum.

Happy rooting!

Re: ThunderBolt Rooted!

I was gonna post about this in here as well, about a week ago.
But I was waiting for the root methods to be further tested and easier methods to be more stable, which they are now.

Anyhow, I will copy and paste my reply in another thread, as others may find the links useful and easier to find that way.
So here it is:

Helpful Links:

Easy Install of Android SDK/ADB

How To Use ADB and Common Commands

Root Methods:

1.) The adb method works and helps you understand the process.

2.) The Easy Rooter
Works great as well and requires less steps and knowledge of what you are doing.

3.)One Click Method For PC, which also works quite well.

4.)Easy Root Mac/Linux Version
If you are on a Mac or use Linux

____Ref:Manual Root > step-by-step guide for Mac OS

I have tried each of the PC versions and rooted and unrooted my Thunderbolt quite a few times now, to help test different methods.
Once you use the Easy Rooter method, yes it downgrades the firmware during the process.
This firmware(rom) is not what you are supposed to stick with using.
Although yes, it does function just fine.

After the downgrade and rooting, there is a simple step to:
use Rom Manager and CWM(ClockworkMod Recovery) to flash a recovery image,
which then upgrades the firmware to the same revision that the device shipped with.
Or you can then flash any of the custom roms available.

Also, yes there is a way to unroot as well.

[WARNING] Do not downgrade to 1.0xxxxx after root

Yea I agree, easier to find here in the development thread.

Good job with descriptions of each method/thread, looks like you've covered everything Ive read for the most part. Countless hours of readings but priceless knowledge.

My TB won't be here until tomorrow...oops TODAY!

Open Rom Manager and select Flash ClockworkMod recovery.
A dropdown will appear with the Thunderbolt as the only option.
Select it and allow it to flash the recovery image.
Then you will be updated back to the version that came on the phone, but you will still be rooted. Make a backup with ClockworkMod of your current rom first, if you intend to try and keep your data intact while upgrading.
Other options would be to flash a custom rom from XDA.

Question Re: ThunderBolt Rooted!

Can I root my TB with the following?

Android 2.2.1
Software 1.70.605.0
PRI 1.41_002, 1.64_002
Build 1.70.605.0 CL343953
Kernel 2.6.32.21-g0606a3a
Baseband 1.39.00.0627r, 0.01.69.0625r

The phone has received an OTA from VZW since activation last week.

What is the 'easiest' way for a novice? I used to root my WM TP with PPC Kitchen

Thanks

Re: ThunderBolt Rooted!

the best root method, is the auto rooter on android central. it takes time but it's the easiest if your not comfortable with the command line.
