Re: DROID on the 6th... whos staying WinMo?
There is NO Verizon Bloatware on the Droid! There is 1 VVM icon that is a shortcut to download vvm. I wonder how much not having VZ's bloatware helps the Droid run so well?

Technically speaking, there's no bloatware on the Imagio either. The Imagio is marketed as a media phone, like the Q9m was, which is why all the V-Cast software is there. (I really dislike it all personally, but let's be honest with why it's there) |

Re: DROID on the 6th... whos staying WinMo?
I'd argue that bloatware is defined as preinstalled software on a device that most people will not use. I don't know the numbers, but I would guess that since all of verizon's extra software (VVM, Navigator, Mobile TV, CityID, etc.) all cost extra money per month, the majority of users will just let the software sit on their phone gathering dust. So I'd say all that stuff is bloatware, even if the Imagio is defined as a "Multimedia" phone. Now if the made Mobile TV Free, then its a whole different story- I'd use it a lot more often!

I simply think it's unfair to say "x phone is better than the Imagio because x phone doesn't have all the 'bloatware,'" when said "bloatware" is part of the phone's advertised purpose. If you want to say the Droid has a better screen, go ahead, because the Droid does use better screen technology (IMHO) than the Imagio. I'd love to have multi-touch, even in a limited capacity. I don't like pre-installed software anymore than the next geek. The first thing I usually do with a phone or a computer is reformat and build things up from scratch to be the way I like them. But I'm also not most people. A person who buys the Imagio because it's a "multimedia/V-Cast" device is doing so because they want the software that's on there. |

I still consider it bloatware as well. who really need or wants vcast videos? Who would actually use VZ navigator when there are free apps out there that work fine and apps you can pay one time for that are way better than vz navigator Who needs the VZ mobile e-mail or mobile IM? I agree that it is not as bad as buying a new PC that comes with every useless app you can think of. I would never make a decision on purchasing a product based of of the software installed as it is an easy fix. as far as the screen on the droid goes.. i thought it was actually pretty bad. i compared it to the imagio and the eris and the htc's blew it away. I am talking picture quility not the capacitve vs resistive. obviolsy we would love to have a capacitive screen on our phones. overall the droid felt and looked like a cheap toy. if you need a keyboard it has a good form factor though. except the keyboard layout which the layout IMO was bad |

Re: DROID on the 6th... whos staying WinMo?
My fiance has had her droid for a couple days now and she hates it. I bought it for her for a early Christmas present and, most likely it will be going back unless my little bro wants to buy it. She hates it for these reason's, you absolutely cannot get it out of a pocket with those square corners on it, it's heavy, bulky, and the screen already has a scratch on it. But her biggest complaint is "I can't f**ing text on this thing worth sh**t." She's a real creampuff isn't she? I asked her if she wanted an imagio like mine and she said she just wanted her touch pro back for now and get something better later. My complaints: I initially installed a bunch of apps from the appstore on it and when I would open they keyboard to rotate it to landscape it said "unable to complete action" in a pop up box. I then removed apps one by one to find out that a file manager was making this happen. After on the web the os would get clunky for about 30-40 seconds after I got off even though the browser was closed. When I would flick to scroll it would take .5 to .75 of a second for the menu to move. And I have to concur the keyboard does suck. Do yourselves a favor and wait for a device that can handle android 2.0 (aka passion). Motorola should let HTC run the android show. If I had a choice I would rather the eris which I'm trying to convince her to settle for because I do like playing with android. All user reviews say the eris is snappy, and I'm sure 2.0 will be available, maybe not oem, but you know how we do.
