Based on a long thread related to same issue on the TP2, there have been a number of "fixes" (*228 options 1&2, hard reset, soft reset, CDMA/global switch, airplane mode on and off, power off and on, etc.) for the "stuck in 1X" problem. However, after trying them all, they only work temporarily, if at all.

All these solutions cycle the radio off and on, which gives it a fresh chance to see a 3G signal if there is one. It stays locked onto 3G until the signal weakens, even temporarily, and drops to 1X mode -- and pretty much stays there, even when the 3G signal returns.

Many people with the problem have gone to Level 3 support at VZW, with no "solution" other than the usual ones mentioned above. Even most people who exchanged phones continued to have the problem, to a more or less degree.

The problems seems to be with the radio hardware and/or firmware. I don't think we'll have a solution until we get a ROM update. Hopefully, it'll be that easy and we won't have to wait that long.

Same issue. I normally have 3G service but it drops into 1A and my clock goes from the flip clock with the weather animation to the standard digital display. Reset fixes it, but it goes back. I shall complain loudly to Verizon and see what they tell me.

Why is it so many of us TP2 and Imagio phone users are getting stuck in 1X with Verizon. There is a slew of users (ppcgeeks.com) Whose phones get stuck in 1X and cannot get back to 3G unless we recycle power, recycle phone mode in communications or dial #228. Verizon has been contacted but refuses to help us. Also, the Wi-fi reception is very weak when I know its not my hub. WHY? I think there is a problem with the Radio in these devices and no one wants to fix it. Also, the weather location gets confused very often.
Can we get someone somewhere tp help?

I would suggest that everyone having this problem contact HTC from their web site. Verizon is NOT going to fix this problem in the hardware/firmware. HTC should be interested in solving it quickly, possibly with a ROM update, because they are getting phones returned every day due to this problem.

Well Im getting a new phone sent to me ...Not new but refurbishment. I have 10 days to test it before I have to send my original back. They told that if the next one has the same issue they would send a tower fixer guy out, WTF does that mean? I have a strong feeling Ill get stuck in 1X, It will take me 1 day to know because I travel to a 1X place everyday.

This is a strange and inconsistent problem. For the first few days I had the phone, I was stuck in 1X mode most of the time, despite attempts (resets, etc.) to correct it. Now, its been in 3G mode for days. I've done nothing. Same settings, same location, same everything.

BTW, the weather update only seems to work consistently in 3G mode. When my phone was in 1X mode, it would show me Athens, Greece or some other location.

EDIT: 11/09 Four days later and am still getting a consistent solid 3G

Any resolution to this, just got mine today and having this trouble.
