Re: what's up with this extreme word correction??
That was getting to me my first few days I had the phone too but I finally decided I really didn't need the damn thing so I switched it from XT9 to ABC. I know that doesn't help ya out at all but I've enjoyed texting and such much more now without the word suggestion/completion.

Re: what's up with this extreme word correction??
I think I'm missing the whole text entry thing here, because I'm having a problem entering numbers for example. Seems very awkward to have to hit the "ABC->123" button to get numbers in; on my old XV6700 with WM6.1, I could press Shift and get numbers. What is this XT9 button that's on the keyboard? I suspect these are pretty simple questions - is there an on-line tutorial somewhere that gives all the various text entry options and explains the modes etc.?

IF you hit the XT( button and switch it to ABC you should be fine. But then you don;t get spell correction/suggestion. IS there a way to get spell suggestion?

Re: what's up with this extreme word correction??
To the left of the touch keyboard there is essentially a small toggle that goes from XT9 to ABC. The XT9 is what gives you your predictive text entry based on what you're typing and also allows you to add words to the built in dictionary. Sliding it to ABC turns all that off and just treats it like a normal keyboard. I also found typing in ABC mode much smoother since it's not trying to figure out what you're typing and adding suggestions for words above the keyboard.
