No, you just long press the end key and wait less than 3 seconds. It shuts the screen off by itself.

Any idea if this can this be used to somehow link to a shortcut/widget in SPB MS? Ive been using the supplied "lock screen" widget but I think a "screen off" widget is better idea and Ive gotten kinda used to my media button for the camera.

I added it as a widget when I used spb. From my memory. just add a widget then pick add shortcut then select programs and it should be there
