Re: Battery Drain/Handcent - Just when you think it's figured out...

Wow never even realized but I've been running 100% awake time as well. Getting a full day out of battery though, wonder if I can get more with a fix. Btw I am running Handcent.

What would be great for the sake of this original posting, if your phone is still sleeping regularly (evidenced by a steady drop of %), do soft resets and see if your phone still sleeps regularly when sitting idle. What else happens with each soft-reset is the Total Awake and Sleep timer will refresh to zero.

If your phone is like mine, the soft-resets will trigger your phone to never sleep. Freaking Hero insomnia--My Hero is downloading a hidden methamphetamine widget from Market. If it doesn't happen, your phone is great and mine really needs to be exchanged. The Total Awake and Sleep timer are 100% and the timers are perfectly synced after plenty of soft-resets.
Well, like a dummy I soft reset my phone out of morbid curiosity. And yes we are back to 100% awake time. So the moral is if you want it to sleep as of now you have to hard reset, disable default message app, install Handcent or equivilent, then never touch the phone again. One good note, this time when I soft reset the phone it didn't mess handcent all up...I suppose that's progress. I really hope HTC fixes this as they say they will. I never turn my phone off really, but I don't like having to worry about it if I do.

Little bit off topic but when I installed handcent, I started to receive weird text message that android+letters and sysmbols that makes no sense left me a voice message and that I should call 408-***-****. I'm using modaco's rom.

That happened to me once, right after I installed Handcent. I think it was after I missed a call. After that, I never got that message. Are you getting multiple messages like that?

after you soft reset, use a task manager (i use task control) and kill messaging (it starts up with the phone) and handcent. Voila, sleeping like a baby.

I went in and messed with the settings, and notifications in the handcent program, to match how I received messages with the stock messaging program. Maybe one of those changes fixed that messaging issue you are having for me.

Re: Battery Drain/Handcent - Just when you think it's figured out...

Just got mine last weekend, and installed handscent right off the bat...and have been running an average 13 to 14 percent awake time....not sure if this helps anyone, but hopefully the info does lol. I did disable the stock messaging stuff too, and I use Task Panel for a task killing app.

Re: Battery Drain/Handcent - Just when you think it's figured out...

After the end of the 30-day return period, my Hero is finally sleeping like a baby.

After my last post, I think I did another hard reset after I noticed that it went back to not being able to sleep (100%--Perfect sync of "Up time" and "Awake time"). Also, after the last hard reset, I found the notices that Sprint had finally released the firmware update. Don't know if the fix was because of the last hard reset or the update, but the point is that the phone is working at optimal levels.

The relevant third-party apps I'm using are Advanced Task Killer, Handcent (just better interface than stock SMS- IMHO) and Spare Parts (thought for a moment that this could have been an Up time culprit). ATK still installed, cuz I just like being able to shut down the apps that just arbitrarily run even though I never opened up (i.e. Sprint Nav, Footprint, Messages (stock SMS)). Why do these damn programs, and others, have to start up? Hate it.

Anywho, everything is good to go, and I'm glad things worked out before the end of the 30-day period.

Re: Battery Drain/Handcent - Just when you think it's figured out...

I am seeing an increase in awake time whenever I get a notification. All is good until I get some sort of notification then my phone stays awake. I am also noticing a lot of the preinstalled apps are starting whenever I get a text message. I am using HandcentSMS. When I get a text Sprint Nav, messaging, voicemail, google voice, and several other apps are showing running on ATK.
