Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

I switched from my Diamond to the Hero on 10/11 and havent looked back since. I am absolutely in LOVE w/ android! My curse is that i work for Best Buy, and in talking to my buddy in the mobile dept, i found out about the Samsung Moment coming out next week. a quick run of the specs, and im really considering switching out again. I'm still within my 30 days so they will do the swap in the store w/o an issue, but im really debating. heres my thinking:

Pros (reasons to switch):
800mhz processor
AMOLED screen w/ more colors
hardware keyboard (i still miss the keyboard from my mogul)
LED flash (again, i miss the flashlight app from my mogul, not really for pics)
touchpad "trackball"
vanilla android (this may not seem like a pro, but from what i've read, the hope is that it will upgrade to 1.6 or 2.0 easier since theres no need to rewrite SenseUI for the update)

Cons (stopping me from switching):
Weaker camera
No digital compass? (from what i'm reading)
No multi-touch (yet, i know the hero multi was really just an HTC hack)
No sense UI (mostly the loss of 7 screens, and the enhanced contacts)
convenience (i love new phones, i hate setting them up)
i can get $50 back on my Hero this week, the moment will be the same price as what i paid for my hero 3 weeks ago so its an even swap

im telling myself 2.0 will come out soon enough and i will get multi touch back (i hope), and somone will hack SenseUI as well (saw it on my friends G1 last week, buggy, but there). the camera is not that big of an issue. I mean, its a phone, if i want to take nice pics, i'll stick to my DSLR. But i really miss my hardware keyboard ever since switching to the diamond last year. And I guess i'm really debating if the processor will make enough of a difference to pass up on getting $50 back on my hero.

Thoughts?

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

According to this post it will have a compass.

http://androidandme.com/2009/10/phon...pecs-revealed/

I dont know how reliable this is....

I am going for the moment. It has serveral things going for it IMO. I like the 800mhz proc and it is a samsung proc with grafics accelerations via OpenGL. Also, like you said the slide-out keyboard.

I can say that I have the Hero and the SenseUI is underwhelming at best IMO. I have played with the G1's and the interface is cleaner. Also, 2.0 will relase on the Droid and this will ship with 1.6 (there are conflicting reports on this). Soon enough we will see. The Hero would be nice if it had a keyboard and a faster proc to keep up with SenseUI. But, then it wouldnt be the Hero....

I'm really stuck because I love my Hero but I miss my hard keyboard.... just don't want to regret leaving HTC, I really like HTC so I guess I'll check it out Sunday and make the big decision

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

so i've used the moment for about two hours or so.. the moment has a Palm Pre type feel to it (which I didn't like)..made of a cheaper plastic than the Hero..Also, the integrated contacts is a noticeable difference (esp. if you're a facebook person)..To add it to it the Moment is slightly bigger too

IMO stick with the Hero..

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

straight from a sprint rep:

he currently has a palm pre...wants to switch to android with the hero because his coworkers all got a hero...but he wanted to wait for the samsung moment because it has the keyboard...... so if you guys dont know yet, sprint already has them in the store...hes tested it back and forth...he told me he will not be getting it for a couple reasons he leaked about the moment......the moment for one does not have a sensitive touchscreen..he mentioned that it had to be pushed down hard to flip through the scenes... next is the scenes... the hero has 7... i think from what i remember him telling me there is only like 3 on the moment.... but definitely alot less then the hero.... also of course ..much bulkier...he said overall the hero is much better

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

I played with the moment for awhile and honestly did not like it. The Hero's UI just feels better and with the sense it just is so much smoother. Stick with the Hero unless the keyboard is that important. I will say this though, the keyboard lighting up blue on the moment did look cool. Oh yeah and the screen, hmmmm led not all that.

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

I left my BB Tour-- went into the store yesterday and the salesperson brought out the moment and it was the same price as the Hero so I bought it. About an hour later I was back at the store swapping it for a the Hero.
I realize that I am not a fan of Samsung Phones as they do not seem as well made as HTC. Yes the Moment has the slide out keyboard, but coming from my Touch Pro and TP2 the keyboard is substandard and does not have a good setup or feel to me.
The number of home screens on the Moment was also a deal breaker. 3??? that does nothing for me-- i enjoy the full 7 of the Hero. The HTC widgets also outdo the available widgets on the moment-- overall I'm enjoying my Hero so far--

Re: Keep my Hero or get the Moment?

Man the keyboard (and 800mhz processor) are whats making me consider the swap. I really like my hero so this is a tough one. I miss the hard kb especially for emulators.

btw Found this table a person in another forum made. Nothing new but shows the specs from alot of phone side by side. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...ktwpCyNu5lbrWQ

Just saw that the Moment uses MICRO usb... Thats a huge negative for me because that means all my chargers and cords are useless! I've accumulated so many over the years, I've got a car charger, charger in my bed room living room, at work and in my book bag (TP owners know that near constant access to juice was necessary to make it through the day lol). All of which would be useless with the Moment. = FAIL!!!
