Unhappy Dust in Screen?

Anyone else experienced the problem of dust under the front glass? Apparently there are a lot of new Sprint Hero's with this problem. I guess they didn't seal the glass to the lcd well enough. There are some people complaining in the sprintusers forum as well as on the main sprint forums. Sounds like it's no problem to exchange for a non-dusty one.

Mine has 5 or 6 specs of dust near the top right corner; only visible with the screen off and bright light source from the front. I am fearful that it will get worse over time so I'll probably be replacing it this week.

I have not had this issue, but thanks for the heads up and good luck getting a replacement. Let us know how it goes.

Re: Dust in Screen?

My issues didn't pop up until day 5 with my phone and the dust problem is hardly noticeable. Today I was reading the phone in bright sunlight and one of the specs glimmered. I thought it was on the screen at first but sure enough it's under the glass. I just know from past experience that once a little dust is in, it's highly likely to be annoying in a few short months.

Re: Dust in Screen?

I am on my third Hero. 1st had speaker issues. 2nd was the dust in the screen. I have found that with all three there was a gap on the bottom left between the control buttons and the screen which allows dust to get in. The solution I went with is to Ghost Armor the device and overlap the film in that area. Got mine at BB and they were cool with the exchange. They even let me keep the older battery and sd card. Love the device just found that I have been unhappy with how they are made rather then the functionality.

When you say speaker issues, are you referring to the speaker or the earpiece? I notice sometimes while on a call, it sounds a bit tinny, but not really tinny...almost like a rattle. I believe it to be the shutter from the camera and not anything defective with the earpiece. It hasn't gotten to the point where it's too annoying, so I was just curious if that was what you were seeing as well.

The speaker issue I was having was a static sound when I would make calls. I read how great the sound quality was so I knew it was the actual speaker was bad.

Re: Dust in Screen?

No dust issues here but that is really bad for a phone like Hero, it shouldn't be doing that at all. Let us know how your exchange goes. The sprint store rep should be able to do it for you asap as it is a major pain in the ***.

Re: Dust in Screen?

Well I got my second replacement at the local sprint store today. Inspected the screen like a hawk while power was off and there was no dust. I went back to work and now there are 2 specs of dust near the upper left of the screen behind the glass. Nowhere near the amount of dust my traded in phone had but that phone too started out with just a few specs and over the course of a week that turned into dozens of specs. Can't imagine what that would look like in 2 years. I'll keep an eye on these 2 specs; if they multiply at all, this one is going back again. Sheesh... I've had 4 htc phones in the past and have never had this problem. I wonder if they are just unexperienced with the glass capacitive screens.

Can't believe there aren't more people on these forums with the same problem. I've always kept my phones with no case in my pocket. I mean, that's what they are designed for right?
