Is there any way to keep the screen from going to sleep?

I do a lot of driving and my phone spends most of the day on charge in a cradle on the dash. WM had a setting that would keep the screen on while plugged-in. Does android have a setting to do this without having to disable the screen timeout?

* Goto Settings
* Sound & Display
* Scroll down to "Screen timeout" (Default is set to 30 seconds)

* You can set it to "Never timeout"

**Remember to turn it off when you are not going to have a charger around.

Hope this helps

There's also the program KeepScreen in the market. It lets you choose to keep the screen on for certain apps only. I think there is also a setting somewhere in there to keep the screen on when plugged in and charging...

Re: Is there any way to keep the screen from going to sleep?

Thank you for the replies, but I am still not any closer to a solution. I know I can manually set the screen timeout to "never", but I think that could be a pain in the butt ever time i cradle the hero in my vehicle. As far as using keep screen it might work if i can figure out what service runs when the hero charges or is plugged in, and set the program to only be active at that time. I just wish there was a simple config option of keep screen on when plugged in like WM

There is a setting to keep the screen on when plugged in... go to...

settings>applications>development and make sure Stay Awake is checked. (screen will never sleep while phone is charging)

Re: Is there any way to keep the screen from going to sleep?

So I'm in a similar situation... I want my screen to stay on at full brightness while in my car cradle and plugged in while I'm driving.

I do have the stay awake setting checked... but the problem is the screen will dim to minimum brightness after the time set in the screen timeout time. During daylight hours, that makes the screen unreadable so I'm still looking for a solution...

You could touch it...caress it every once and a while.

Hit Menu>Settings>Applications>Development>Stay Awake

That should do it... Says "Screen will never sleep while charging"

Yeah, I already have this. The problem is that it will still dim. I want it to not just stay on while charging, but stay on standard brightness.

Been looking at apps on the android market, and it seems like guys are reporting that they currently don't play very nicely with the Sprint Hero. A bit frustrating...
