June 2011--best way to root an HTC Sprint Hero?

First of all, I am SORRY if these questions have been asked before, but I can't find them.

Also, if this is the wrong spot, please let me know where it should be rather than making snide comments like on another site.

I have successfully rooted my EVO with unrevoked. Now my brother wants me to do root his Sprint HTC Hero

Here are my questions.

I see that there is an download on unrevoked, but his radio is 2.42.02.10.29 and this is not listed. Is this an issue?

Is there a downside to having to use this unrevoked forever?

All that he wants is to do is get a bigger SD card so that he can move his apps off his phone and put more on his SD card. Is this possible? Even without rooting?

I don't think he cares about ROMs or tethering. He just wants to move some of his apps to an SD card and I don't think it is possible without rooting.

Thanks, any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure if it is possible to do without rooting. I think the easiest way to root it is to download z4root from the market. It took me about 5 minutes to root my son's hero using this. You can then flash darktremors a2sd (you will need to be rooted to use) and move everything to the sd card.

For whatever reason I can't edit the post but I forgot to add that only certain roms support darktremors a2sd so I had to flash a new rom. I used NFX stock rom found HERE. It kept everything on the phone so there was no need to re-set it up.
