Faldiin

Just spoke with my local sprint rep and was told this bombshell....

In addition to the extra charges if you buy an EVO in an area with 3G only your data plan will be limited to 5 gb's on your hotspot. If you buy it in a 4G area you will have unlimited data on your hotspot.

I don't understand this one but I think that is rediculous!

$30/mo is rediculous for 5GB, but this is something I would confirm with dan@sprint.com, or get a few opinions from multiple sprint CS reps, via phone, chat, email, etc. Not saying your local sprint rep is wrong....but I'd get more than one opinion on that.

Re: Hero to Evo?

-Speed (1ghz processor vs 528 mhz) ---------<---768 oc hero im fine..

-Screen (4.3" vs 3.2") -----<------dont watch movies etc,, 3.2 is fine for me.

-Internet (4G, where available, vs 3G)...although 3G will perform better on the evo vs the Hero. --------<--evdo rev a will perform the same on the evo vs the hero..

-RAM and ROM (not sure the exact specs on the Evo, but it's at least double what the Hero has) -------<--only positive i see atm.

-Camera (8mp vs 5mp) --------<- still a cell cam.. only for quick shots,,

-Camcorder (720p recording, vs 640 x 480) <-----not impressed htc compressed the hell out of it. so still not a reason to get it..

-Screen Resolution (480 x 800 vs 320 x 480) ---------<---another positive.

-Will be officially updated to Froyo (hero may get custom roms from XDA/PPCGeeks, but chances of anything official are slim) -----<------good luck on that one. xmas next si when sprint and htc will have that update out.lol

the hero will still live on..and will have a 2.2 rom soon u watch and see..

my hero is screaming right now.. with freshtoast oc'd to 768.. so gonna pass on the evo for the moment.. that money can be spent elsewhere...

I'm loving my hero on fresh toast. I'll still get an evo, and give my fiancee the OC'd hero. The question was what made the evo better than the hero, and those would be the differences(some could be negatives, like the size of the device, due to the 4.3" screen...) of the stock hero, vs a stock evo. When you get into the world of rooting....everything goes out the window. But, once the evo is rooted, oc'ing is a possibility, and it will raise the bar, so to speak. You just need to decide whether the cost of ownership is worth it. For me, it is. For others, I cannot decide, nor can I say their decision is wrong.

Edit: The internet will be slower on the hero vs the evo, even using the same connection (3g on both, or wifi on both). While the packets will be downloaded at the same speed, the faster processor on the evo will render those packets faster, and display them on the screen faster than the hero. There is a post about that on this forum, or androidforums.com (can't remember which).

Re: Hero to Evo?

Im just trying to be realistic..lol

I mean im a geek just like everyone else here.. but know when to sit down and take a backseat approach to new tech.. The evo is sweet dont get me wrong. but really if all u do is text, email, facebook, twits, calls, youtube, surf alittle,, then i dont see why i need something else when the hero does all those perfectly ,,. I use my hero for communication not a pmp,lol outside of last.fm etc. and my music.. and youtube..

same for my wife..and her bb tour..all bout communication ..

like i said many posts ago gonna wait it out til at least dec ( my bday ) lol hell something twice the power of the evo might be around the corner at that time.lol

I'm not arguing with you. Your reasons for keeping your hero are valid. I don't disagree. No one really needs an Evo. But there are plenty of people who want one, and that helps keep the economy going....which the world needs at this time...

Re: Hero to Evo?

sounds right.. cause 3g ( evdo ) data card are capped at 5gigs.. so why would the 3g mobile hotspot plan be any diff? 4g is unlimited..3g ( evdo ) still runs on the cdma network..

Re: Hero to Evo?

I E-Mailed dan@sprint.com last night about the Evo, and got the following relating to the data/WiFi hot spot:
Quote:
In discussing the $30.00 charge for the mobile hotspot I explained that it covers unlimited data and you can connect up to 8 devices. This is the still half the cost of a data broadband card.
