2. When you root the phone, mine is not rooted, does it do a hard reset or does it just come back up rooted? Just curious because I am not ready to start putting custom roms on it yet but there are some apps I want that the phone needs to be rooted first. For example, wifi tethering.

2.No hard reset required. Also, you don't have to hard reset to flash roms either, fyi.

For number 2, the way I rooted my phone, I had to flash a DamageControl ROM to complete the root process, so if you go that route, then yes it will wipe everything you had installed from your previous stock ROM
