I will try assurion, but I was trying to avoid the $100 fee...is there any way around that...I mean I do have a legitimate issue.

that could work, and instead of assuming your hero is flagged I'd take it to another Sprint store, unrooted, and pretend you don't even know what "rooted" means. You'd be surprised.

pm me with you location i can see if i know anyone in the area also take it to a non sprint store for repairs go to sprint.com search for location then click repairs....i never take to a retail / corp sprint store anymore. when you go to 3rd party they look at it ask if you have insurance and then say well i cant fix it your new 1 will be here in 2 days.
