Just got an Sprint HTC Hero

Coming from the HTC Touch Excellent phone!

A few questions..
When I click on the Broswer nothing happens, just a white screen?
I downloaded Dolphin and no problem connecting.

The GPS On/Off, is that for letting your location be known?

Should I always leave WIFI on?

Is there a way to wake up the phone when receiving text messages?

Thanks in advanced!

First off welcome to the family.......... The GPS should be off unless your using the GPS system. IT will help save battery life. same for Wifi unless your using it. You can go into your settings of the text messenger when you go into the thread to see your messages. it gives you options. I recommend downloading Handcent SMS from the Market for your text messaging needs. It has many features and its free . Also viewing ThaCountys Wiki like suggested above will help guide you. It is loaded with many tips to help you threw your Hero Experience

Thanks for the info!

What about the Browser not connecting?
And what are the benefits of "Rooting"?

I dont know how long you are waiting for the browser when you first open it up but I do know that the default browser does take a sec the first time you open it. It does some kind of auto sign in. Give it more time or try hitting your hard menu button and just typing in the address you want to go to and see what happens.

Leave GPS on. The system only activates it when a program is requesting location information. You will see the GPS icon in the status bar up top when this is happening.

As for the browser, it defaults to a white screen. Hit the Menu button to bring up favorites or the address bar.

Personally, leaving gps on rapes my battery. The browser has to sign in to the sprint dashboard on the first run, so it will take a minute or two. Don't give up hope!

Do you leave some sort of GPS-using app running in the background, like Locale?

If you don't see the GPS icon on the taskbar, the GPS is disabled and turned off. Turning it off manually won't have any additional benefit.

Re: Just got an Sprint HTC Hero

Weird but the default browser didn't work initially but Dolphin did?

Tried again late last night & now the default browser is working, and calling tech support today because sprint Navi & the droid market wasn't connecting? They said their having network problems which should be resolved by tonight.

Still trying to figure out how to wake the phone when a text is received?
I'm using Handcent and didn't see that option, maybe I'm missing something?
