Yeah, and with no definitive date set at this time, I wouldn't hold my breath for it to come any time in the immediate future.

OFFICIAL word from Sprint regarding Android 2.1 for Hero
I found the following on a thread over at the xda forums:
Care News and Headlines: 03-17 Android 2.1 platform for Hero and Moment Specialists: All Customers: All What you need to know: With all the anticipation of Nexus One joining the Sprint Android family of great devices, customers with the HTC Heroand the Samsung Momentwith Googlemay wonder about the Android 2.1 platform that supports Nexus One. What you need to do: We know that technology has enabled greater productivity and spontaneity in our lives, and because of this we have become very dependent on staying connected. Customers don only expect more from their wireless phones -- they demand it. Let your customers know we are actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks. Look for more information coming in April about Android 2.1 platform for Hero and Moment. And dont forget: The HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment with Google are superior devices. Sprint is the only national U.S. carrier to offer HTC Hero, and it picked up top honors as Best Mobile Handset at the 2010 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. About.com readers have also nominated HTC Hero as their favorite smartphone for the 2010 Reader Choice Awards. ---------------------- ---------------------- for the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=648780 What does this mean for us Hero users? Well for one, it means that we will NOT be getting Android 2.1 before April 1st. (My guess it it will be towards the end of April or within the first few weeks of May) 2) The GSM release schedule found on another thread here is strictly for the GSM Hero, not CDMA. I'm happy with DamageControl on my Hero and don't really care much about the official release, just wanted to let people know whats going on with it because I know there are people who don't want to root their devices and really want an official version to be released ( I was one of them until DamageControl came out). |
This post has been thanked 1 times. |

what's everyone's take on the upgrade giving the hero the live wallpapers like the N1? out of curiosity.

I'd take performance over eye-candy. The live wall papers must bog down the phone.

Re: OFFICIAL word from Sprint regarding Android 2.1 for Hero
Like you, I am happy with the DamageControl Rom. But I am also looking forward to the official 2.1 Rom. Not because I want to flash to it, but because I want our chefs to get a hold of it. I can't wait to see what they can cook up.

Re: OFFICIAL word from Sprint regarding Android 2.1 for Hero
I for one didn't really expect to see an updated rom for the Hero on the 26th. If you think about it (unless there is something I missed) when was the last time HTC released a rom for a Sprint phone that wasn't leaked to us sometime before hand??? They often leak the roms beforehand, if for no other reason than the free beta testing we provide.
