optic lens broke?

so i bought the hero to test it out and first thing i noticed is that there is a very distinct rattle when laying down the phone. It's towards the top of the device.. i read some place that it's the optical lens within the camera. I ordered another one hoping to have it fixed, yet again, the replacement (new) was the same way.

Can anyone shed some light on this for me. I don't think it's a common issue as I did a search for rattle on this particular forum and it returned one thread that didn't answer my question.

Wow 2 units like that? I think you're really unlucky - nothing like that with my device.

hmm.. well im calling HTC now to see if it's maybe an easy fix which i doubt, if not i'll call sprint and tell them to send me another one, yet again.

ps when did you guys buy your hero?

2 days ago.. but got mine new from a guy on craiglist.. so dont know bout the build date or anything...

I got mine about 2 months ago - but I'm in Canada so our model is different.

my bet is loose screw inside. seen many a mogul that way.

I have the same problem. Had it since day one and it rattles. I just live w it.

hmm if it is a screw it's in a very very isolated compartment that won't allow it to move around. if i just tilt the phone, i won't make noise you have to atleast lightly tap it.. i mean lightly. even just sitting it down reproduces this rattle noise.

HTC basically told me that it's a hardware and to go to a repair center.. which i don't have here.
