HTC basically told me that it's a hardware and to go to a repair center.. which i don't have here.
probably in the little screw channel, it doesn't have enough room to fully fall out, but is no longer threaded, or the thread hole busted...

not convinced it's the lens unless a video or something is effected.

Re: optic lens broke?

i'm pretty convinced that it's the camera as it autofocus', you can hear the same exact noise just in a shorter burst.

definitely not the only one.

Not to be a smart ass....but did you take that picture of a Hero with YOUR Hero? the reason I'm asking is because you said that your Hero is new. Did you bother to take the plastic coating off the lens that the phone (and really all electronics with screens) ships with? It looks as if that was taken through a film.

to be quite honest, I'm actually shocked that 2 or 3 people have said that their phones DON'T rattle. Every post I've seen both here and androidforums, everyone has the issue. I am fairly certain it probably SHOULDN'T rattle, but I don't think it's a defect that's going to impact the function of the phone. I honestly thought it was the shutter from the camera...whether that makes sense or not, I have no idea. It doesn't bother me at all though.

As for your picture quality....I don't know what to tell you. I've taken pictures and they haven't come out like professional wedding photos, but they're definitely clearer than that. Try downloading FXCamera from the Market. Also, adjust your ISO to 800. Those two things seem to help produce pretty decent pix.

Re: optic lens broke?

I always thought it was the accelerometer that rattled. Mine only rattles when I plop it on my desk, or give it a good shake.

And as for the film on the lens, mine came with a small square of blue film covering the lens on the camera BENEATH the battery cover, not on the cover itself.

Re: optic lens broke?

I have the same noise too, it only happens with I tap the back portion of the phone or I put it down. I also read that the sound could be the shutter so nothing really to worry about it, but because of your photo quality, could be something else.

Here's what my picture quality is like; ISO 800, Everything else Default:
