Disable Stock MMS

Ok Sorry guys. Searching relentlessly on a couple of andriod forums and turning up nothing.

Installed Handcent, configured it how I want, but trying to figure out to stop the stock messaging app from picking up messages. I don't want to uninstall it but stop it. If there is another post, instructions, etc link it and I'll look through it, but I'm missing something

Re: Disable Stock MMS

Open up the stock app. Hit menu and go to settings. Uncheck auto-retrieve mms and uncheck notifications.

Re: Disable Stock MMS

I suppose the mistake I'm making is opening up the stock messaging app? Is that when it's picking up the text messages out there?

I don't really understand your question. But basically by default when you install handcent the stock app is still going to notify you when you get a message. Neither the stock app nor handcent actually control text messages, they only retrieve it from Android which serves it to them. So it's just both applications letting you know that you got something. All you are doing is telling the stock app to stop looking to see if there's a new message.

Re: Disable Stock MMS

That makes sense.

What I'm getting at is after checking those boxes the stock mms app stops telling me I have a message, but when I open it I see the new message I had waiting already. It is still receiving messages. Is that going to continue to happen even though I'm using Handcent?

Yea because both are just viewing the message from android's messaging system. It's not actually retrieving them. The only "retrieve" is downloading an mms attachment.

Well I was way off on how that worked, but good stuff to know. Thanks for all the info. Handcent is working like charm.
