I have been playing around with the encoding settings. I have been able to play videos without removing my weatherbug widget with Meridian and Act 1 without the freezing and skipping. I dropped the video bitrate from 512 to 500 and the audio from 128 to 96. I think getting good video playback on the hero is a matter of finding a balance between encoding settings, improved codecs, and improved video players. The cpu I had my touch pro was no faster than this cpu and I played video on the vga screen of the touch pro without studdering so I don't think that is the issue here. I really believe it comes down to software rather than hardware but I could be wrong.

I forgot to mention the encoder settings. I use format factory. I found that when I use the h.264 preset instead of the itouch settings, I get smoother playback and no sync issues.

Have you guys ever tried Handbrake it is the best out there!!!

i just heard about this for the first time on lifehacker. apparently more popular than dvdshrink among them. i'll have to give it shot.

Hey guys, just wondering if the hero is capable of video output threw usb or the 3.5 jack?

Ok i ripped the 2 Transformers movies off of my friends HD2 sd card and threw them onto mine but for some reason i cant get them to play at all and theyre in mp4 format?? they play on his nexus one in gallery so idk what im doing wrong

Maybe some incompatible codecs, mp4 is only the container, but the codec is what makes or breaks the playability
