Follow any one of the rooting guides that are available on this site. They include instructions for flashing your recovery image which is what you use to flash a rom.

i think if you want to backup or restore ur rom, u might be using the wrong tool..... if ur already rooted, flash rec is useless... NANDROID BACKUP/ NANDROID RECOVERY is what u need to be using to backup and restore ur rom.. after many hours of playing with the recovery flasher, "thacounty" finally saved me.. But its worded funny though, huh? So anytime u need to backup or restore ur rooted hero, use NANDROID BACKUP/NANDROID RECOVERY! i uninstalled the recovery flasher... i hope this helps u out bra......

yeah use:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584029, and instead of modacos 1.1, use fresh .7, and you should be good... dont forget the .7 patch zip that u have to install after you flash .7..... u should be all good now!

make sure ur using this heroc file which is for our cdma heros, instead of the hero file, which is in alot of the other rooting posts.. doesnt seem like it but one letter threw me off, just like you! HEROC : http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/2/...roc-v1.2.3.img.... Pesonally, i think it should be named hero cdma or hero gsm, so we wont have trouble using the FLASH REC

Also make sure you have 3rd party apps possible. You have to change the flashrec.zip to flashrec.apk, not unzip, but actually change the extension. I would turn on usb debugging just for the warm fuzzy feeling too.
