The Hero came out about a month before the first plain-vanilla Android 2.0 device hit the market. And that's about 3 months if you consider the worldwide release of the Hero prior to the Sprint release.

I assume you will be leaving Sprint to go with that carrier.
Jonnythan, for me its not really about moving to a carrier who has a device updated to 2.1, its more about Sprint continuing to do this to us and we continue to come back, if we make enough noise about leaving due to the lack of Sprint keeping their phones up to date, they don't have to be the first but atleast be in the pack to update, we don't even have a date. If you pay attention to sprints latest marketing, they've already put the Hero in the rear view mirror, but yet we stay loyal and continue to purchase the new phone sprint offers. We talk on the forums about how unhappy we are but yet we continue to give sprint our money. Its time we, the customers seriously consider moving on from Sprint.

We have no date for an update, but you see and hear news about all the other carriers moving to 2.0 or 2.1. I'm tired of waiting.

But what i'm saying is that if the mytouch had 1.6 before the hero ever released(which it did) HTC could have just as easily used that instead of 1.5 and we wouldn't have all these compatibility issues. 1.5 is abandonware and 1.6 & up are supported by everything. I believe that to be shitty.

Re: Power of Twitter and the 2.1 update.

The MyTouch 3G got Android 1.6 on October 1, 2009, about a week or week and a half before the Hero launched.

The MyTouch 3G does not have Sense. It's not very reasonable to think that HTC could have completed Sense for the Hero, updated the already-produced units, and shipped them to retailers in the 8-day time span between the release of 1.6 for the vanilla Android MyTouch 3G and the Sprint Hero with SenseUI launch.

It's also not reasonable to say that the Hero is "on the back burner." They're actively preparing a major OS revision for the phone and told us it will be available to us in the first half of this year. It's not like we have no idea if anything is ever coming or if we have no idea when it might be available.

2.1 is on the way. We will have it in a matter of months, if that. Be a little patient.

Oh and as for the "other carriers moving to 2.0 or 2.1," no other carrier has moved a 1.5 or 1.6 phone to 2.0 or 2.1. Chew on that for a while.

Thanks a lot man. I chewed on that and now my computer is EFFED!!! It won't turn on and I am guessing its due to water damage. Since you didn't have a disclaimer about how you aren't responsible for what happens to my pc when I chew on it I am holding you personally responsible. You owe me a laptop man.

Jonnythan, do you work for Sprint???

I agree with some of what you said, but before I continue, lets clear this up. You and I aren't having a misunderstanding or disagreement, my disagreement as a paying customer is with Sprint.

As far as the Hero being on the back burner, that's just my opinion, you know as well as I do Sprint will move to the next best thing and will drop any upgrades or improvements of the Hero like they do all other phones. When the Touch Pro 2 was released, there was no mention of it, Why? because the Hero was the next big thing, the next Phone will be released and it will be the next big thing and the Hero will ahve no more mention. have you seen any commercials with the Hero mentioned lately from Sprint, no, because that marketing is done, they already have the Hero out i the market and they know the next big phone, most of us "Love the new gadget" guys will jump to that and its possible the Hero will still be on 1.5. Its what they do. The next hot phone they decide to introduce will have the same issues, late upgrades and behind on its current OS. All I'm saying is if we continue to buy the next HOT sprint phone and not make our voices heard, we'll continue to get the same results.

Again, this is not directed at anyone on the forum this is directed at Sprint, we all seem to want the same thing for sprint.

Yeah, and how long was the 1.6 sdk out before that release? long enough to port sense to it, methinks.
