HD2 question about general usage.

I used a Sprint Touch Pro for a year (2009) and loved it, but our company forced us to switch to Blackberry Curve 8900 with Tmobile. I freaking hate it. The one thing good about it is the battery life and it's small to be in pocket and not 'feel it'. The touch pro was bigger but still easy in the pocket.

Im looking at the HD2 from Tmobile but im wondering how is it in the pocket, im afraid i might break it If I sit down with in my front pockets getting in car. Can someone who already has one please chime in. I know its thin, but it's big! Also how is the battery life compared to the touch pro (with custom rom's)?

The more feedback the better before monday so i can make decision. This is the best tmobile usa has at the moment.

Thanks!

Re: HD2 question about general usage.

I can only compare to a Blackberry Curve and iTouch. the HD2 is much bigger and heavier. So I will miss the small size on the Curve and the physical keyboard was nice for one handed operation that I can't do anymore.

The HD2 is about 1/4 inch wider than the iTouch and at least 1/2 inch longer.

Battery life is not great. But I guess with the large screen that is expected. I've already ordered 3 regular size spare batteries and have one extended battery on back order.

It will be a great phone to have when traveling or when I'll have something to put the phone in. It would fit in a pants pocket but definitely would not be unnoticeable. I bought a nice leather case for it that includes a belt holder. So I may have to go back to using one of those.

Funny how phones are going full circle as far as size.

I'm happy I bought it. One minor thing is the facebook app is not as useful as what I had on the Curve. Can't see replies. One thing that I really liked on the Curve that this phone does not have is the ability to be in silent mode but specify some numbers that would still ring.

I liked having my phone on silent but allowing it to ring if my wife called me.

Seems to be pretty fast. I had it downloading a movie, I was listening to Slacker radio and web surfing without any stutters.

Video playback is good from what I've seen with both playing part of a movie from Blockbuster and using Slingbox mobile software to watch my Tivo.

I found a .cab to enable wifi tethering as well and that seems to work. Only have given it brief testing so far.

I'm going on vacation in two weeks and hoping the plane(s) I'm on has the Gogo wifi on it and then I'll try to register for that onboard and try it out. Since I won't be traveling again until November, I don't want to start the 6 month free trial if the planes I'm on do not have the service available.

Re: HD2 question about general usage.

Thanks for that info. Noticable in pockets.. Let me ask a different way. I'm muscular and if I have jeans or dockers, would it fit in the front pockets and be able to sit down without it breaking (havent had one in my hand yet). I'm just afraid if i get this, then tmobile will get a better android phone.

This is the problem, my company has Tmobile, i need to get a phone that is available for corporate accounts, nexus 1 is not since i need to get it with a contract and can't transfer contract to our corp account (or so they say). My company will pay for the phone so i must stick with Tmobile. I have a TON of apps for WM and good software makes a 'good' phone even better. I almost got the cliq but i didnt want such a small screen resolution 320x480 i think.

You also said battery life wasnt great... With my touch pro WITHOUT ANY phone calls and just minimized use, i would get barely 7-8 hours of use (push email though all the time) which killed the battery..

Re: HD2 question about general usage.

for me, the battery lasts quite long, about 14 hours, with minimal phone usage, but heavy Internet on 3G, and no wifi, no blue tooth, and screen brightness to middle or auto. it fits nicely in all my pant pockets. and if it doesn't fit in yours then i suggest getting a clip on case, it will be more convenient. and its an awesome phone, you'll love it

You don't want to put this phone in your jeans' pockets, just jacket or shirt pocket.
Or keep, it in a bag. I got a new messenger bag mostly for this phone and accessories, just like a women's purse.

For battery I bought a Tekkeon recharger which I also carry in the bag. I can go out for a whole day like I did today, with camera on for most of the time, internet and FM radio, and still have enough juice.

I disagree completely. It fits very nicely in just about every pair of jeans except maybe if you've got ultra-tight girl jeans. I actually find the HD2 to be more pocketable than my Diamond because it's so thin.. the Diamond would flip sideways and was just plain fat compared to this, the HD2 works much better.

Yes it does fit, but when you sit down you're going to break it. Sooner or later. Not to mention droping the keys or some coins in the same pocket.

I've been sitting down with it in my pocket for the last few days, hasn't broken yet Doubt it's ever going to do so either by just sitting down.

I don't put keys etc in the same pocket with my phone ever, but that applies to any phone.
