Re: Shift as laptop modem WITHOUT hotspot fee? microUSB tether? software? etc?

+1 for PDANet. It rocks and is on sale right now ($16). I would stick with free version if I didn't need access to https sites. Still, the minor one-time fee for the convenience without having to root is worth it, IMHO.

I'm going to give PDA Net a try, hope it works!
Do I need to root and/or install software to tether via USB?
What software and where do I get it?
Will Sprint be aware that I am wired tethering?
Will they try to charge me a fee if they are aware?
How much?
How do I avoid the fee?

Thank you.

Yes, your going to need software. No root necessary for certain software.

I use PDA Net just. Google it.

No, Sprint will not be "aware". Don't take this as gospel. You never know. But, for the most part they expect people who own phones like ours to higher than normal data useage. That's why we buy the phones.

If they do catch you. I don't know . I suppose it could be considerable.

Not sure how you "avoid" the fee. I just feel that if your an occasional tether user, you'll be ok. But, on the other hand if you use your phone to download an entire season of your favorite show off some sharing site. They might get suspicious .
