Need advice for my 11 yr old son Ipod/Evo

My son wants a ipod touch 4th gen well with money being tight this time of yr no overtime...
My cousin has tha Evo 4G stock with tha white back plate for sell.
It has a broken glass screen and a bad ESN # out standing bill.it works great he wants $30 for it..
If i get it and order a new glass screen im looking around $50 invested..
Thinkin of doing this and give it to my son as an ipod..
Just wondering what yalls thoughts is?
Would it function just as good?
Or wod he not like it..he's 11yrs old

Would it function just as good? Yes.

My experience with each OS' is different - so can't say which he'd prefer or if he'd even like them...
However either device mentioned would fulfill the task requirements (play music)

Look on craigslist for a evo that has a clean esn. They are going for cheap now. I will say the ipod touch is pretty kickass.

Will it work? yes...will it work well is another story.

The ipod touch has a better DAC and probably on-hand storage.

Is your cousin including the SD card? an if so is the space on the SD card enough for your son? (as sd card increases the additional cost)

Nest I would borrow it from your cousin and load up a few song on it and see if your son says its ok. (cause as I said before the DAC on the Evo is subpar, there are Android devices which much much much better DACs, but hey if your son cant tell the difference lol)

Me personally I used my TP2 as a music device and was ok with it, until I got my Epic(has one of the best DACs)...the difference in sound quality was out of this world >.>

Then again for the same cost you can ebay a fascinate(2gb built in) and a little more a vibrant/captivate(16gb built in) and you will have better sound quality.(just make sure to install voodoo sound)

Yea he's inclubing his 8gig sd card.. which i could buy a 16gig and still come out under budget..his sister has a ipod touch 4gen that we got her for her bday.and i spent little time messing around with it.heck i dont even know how to put music on it thats how little i ayed with it..hers is the 8gig version and she has yet to run out of storage..
But it gets pricey when we have to buy her a apple card so she can put music on it and that im not very crazy about..but my 11yr son is into music/videos/games and i could load it up with music easy n free..lol.. i gave him my TP2 beging of summer and he was very xcited played on that sucker for 2weeks..lol..even it functioned like an ipod minus a few apps n games was limited since micr$oft drop it.my doughters ipod has a app called (text plus) or (text gold) that she uses to text ppl with cell phone as long as she has wifi..does anyone know of an app on Market for android that does tha same feature?
Ive yet to find one but still looking.. this is very usefull for when i go to work over or shopping i can txt her..thanks again..

That said you can send text messages to emails if you want to as well. As for SD cards..a 8gb goes around for ~$10 and 16gb goes for ~$20

You can also load up Android on the TP2 to give it a new lease on life lol

Anyways, as I said before as far as music quality the Evo should be around same as a TP2, its no where close to that of an ipod...but if your son can't tell the difference *shrug* lol

Considering the costs involved: 30+50=80 I'd pay 10$ more an get a Fascinate on ebay. simply because you get:

1) better sound quality
2) better screen
3) better gpu
4) larger support of video and audio formats
5) its thinner and at 4" may be easier for an 11 year old to use

Lol.. yea i found tha apps shortly afterward i posted that..im going to look into that other devive u mentioned as well.. sound quality like u said isnt as par but i doubt he will notice or complain.. i just now told him what im thinging of doing and he was all for it xcited like it was tha best thing to tha ipod..lol..and started rambling on what he wanted to do or put on it..so i guess if hes that happy then i was stressing over nothing..lol
I feel alot better.. lol n he said dad ill have a bigger screen then sisters..lol
