Re: Unlock Help
Thank You riley. I dont want to root my phone. I want to unlock it. I think unlocking and rooting is different at least that was what I was told. I want to be able to use my phone with other providers. Do you have any information on that?

Re: Unlock Help
Oh, sorry misread the thread. lol. I don't really know anything about unlocking a cdma phone. I know you can unlock tmobile devices to work on att and vice versa but that more to do with unlocking the sim card which the evo doesn't have. There are some folks that have used the Evo on Boost I think but that's probably not what you are looking for.

Re: Unlock Help
There is some information that's needed, first off are you on the OTA 2.3 or a custom rom with 2.3? You are aware that this is a CDMA phone and will only work on that network right? So you can't take this phone and use it on AT&T as it's a GSM network. Also post what company you are trying to switch over to, and lastly I would say to do a google search or a forum search and try to find the answer while you are waiting for someone to chime in and help, xda is another site with lots of good information so you might want to look over their also.

Re: Unlock Help
Thank you KIOWA69. I dont know what OTA is. I dont think its on a custom rom because I havent done anything to the phone yet. I am aware that it is a CDMA phone, I want to be able to use it with boost mobile. I have tried other forums but everyone gives half information, but I will continue to look around. Thank you so much for your help.

Re: Unlock Help
OTA is over the air, when Sprint pushed out the new update/upgrade to Gingerbread that's how people updated to it. Well if nothings been done to it and it's Gingerbread (2.3 with hboot 2.16) there is no root for it anyways right now.
I did some searching and read a lot of conflicting information on using the Evo on Boost, and what I could gather is you had to either clone the ESN, or find a customer service rep that would add the esn of the Evo to their system, some would do it and others wouldn't, some said it was illegal to do and others said it wasn't, all kinds of different opinions on the issue, I'm not saying it can't be done but sounds like it's a lot of work to do and don't know if it's really worth it. Here is the link to the thread that I probably got the most information out of, kind of confusing the first page or so but the last page was probably the most helpful, but I would advise reading the whole thread, Good Luck! Would EVO 4G work on the Boost Mobile Network - xda-developers |

Re: Unlock Help
There is alot of conflicting info on flashing the evo. I'm tired of searching. I'm going to wait until I can find someone who knows how to do it and just pay whatever it may cost me to have it done. Thank you soo much again for your time and help.

Re: Unlock Help
Its very simple. If you bought your eve, and it came with 2.3, then it is very unlikely that you will be able to root right now.
It sounds like what you want to do is an "ESN Repair," I don't think that we can go into detail on that, because it borders on "ESN Cloning" which is illegal. You might have more luck with ESN Repair on Howard's Forum, or IPMart Fprum. If you obtained an EVO "used" then it is possible that it was updated to 2.3 rooted. Check to see if you have root by downloading AdFree from the android market. If that app works then you are rooted. If it does not work, then you are probably NOT rooted.
