I pay $30/month for internet - should I cancel and get the Evo 4G???

I currently have a cable internet connection and am the only person who uses the internet. Can I just cancel my internet and just use the Evo 4G as a tethering cable internet?

Any cons to this? Does my internet shut off if I get texts? How fast is it? Would I be able to stream Netflix?

anyone else doing this?

Re: I pay $30/month for internet - should I cancel and get the Evo 4G???

I doubt it will be as fast as Cable... But for day to day internet access... It should be fine...
I haven't tried it with my EVO but I was able to stream youtube videos with my TP2 with your basic lag and buffering... Not quite as fast as my cable connection.
I think if you have 4G in your area... You might be OK... But still although this is supposed to be unlimited internet access... You should look at some of the threads here relating to unlimited access.... I feel unlimited is umlimited... Some have pointed to the fine print that states Sprint could take action against "abusers". So it depends on how much you plan on using it. I guess...

Re: I pay $30/month for internet - should I cancel and get the Evo 4G???

Ill play Devils Advicate:

i have a TP2 and (3) TP1s... i use anywhere from 80GBs-100GBs on average a month..

the speed handles Netflix via XBOX360 just fine.. even better on my Laptop... the load time is not great by any means, but once the movie starts youll be good as long as you have good signal... if you dont, netflix readjusts claiming "bandwidth" has slowed and youll get a shitty pic quality, or maybe even bumped out of your movie and have to reload from there or the beinging again...

obviously if im using this much data, im doing other things as well... takes about 2-3hrs for a 700mb file(ill leave you to figure out what thats the "standard size" for) but im not doing direct downloads..........if this has you scratching your head, dont ask lol..

Speeds are very usable for day to day browsing and such.. i never have FB or PPCG issues... Honestly for YouTUbe, its more likely your devices app or browser will load it faster than tethering to a machine will...

hmmmm, what else... do you do online gaming?? youd probably piss people off if you tried to Host for like COD or games like that.. I honestly dont about know WOW or games like that(im only so big of a geek lol).... but normal online Xbox360 games we play online all the time.....

so its upto you man... youll lose speed, its a given... but depending on what your trying to do, you may not be using the extra speed you had available anyways..

Ive been Tethering for over 3yrs now without a traditional Data Provider....

EDIT and Yes, if you get a call, your data will suspend till call ends... on winMO theres ways to handle that, maybe someone will chime in about how Android handles it... obviously if your in 4G calls and Data work at the same time, so youll have no issue.... i think thats everything you mentioned

+4 Keep your internet and if you need faster internet outside the home then consider a 4g device.

I cut the cable soon as I got my evo. It's just me and it goes where I go. I love it. but if you have a family then keep the cable service. I get great speed in my house but at work its just 3g. I'm just waiting for the whole DC area to get it.....

your talking about streaming to the Device....

OP is talking about Tethering man.. is it worth it to just tether around the house and such VS paying for Internet Service through a provider..
