It is recommended by everybody and will give you the best clean slate possible.

I did this numerous times on my 0003 evo but my problems still occured every single time. I-Heart Radio may or may not be the actual cause of the rebooting issue for some of those who think it is... the more load you put on a faulty evo will trigger a reboot reguardless of application or rom. This is my own personal experience and I feel quite confident that my evo was defective and was definetely not rom or software related at the end of my trouble shooting with my previous 0003 evo.

Do your own trouble shooting from a pure stock sprint ruu.
That sounds like a pretty good idea. Will this reset my baseband and PRI and all of that kind of stuff as well? Will it un-root it? Thanks for all of your help!

edit : sorry to be such a noob, but I looked for the sticky that you mentioned and didn't see it, if you could reply with the address I sure would appreciate it.

Yes you lose root. No big deal. Yes your phone will be put back like new out of box condition, including stock radios.

No sticky needed. Do this: download the 3.29 ruu from shipped-roms.com. Install htc sync from the htc sync folder that is preinstalled on your sd card. Copy the htc sync.exe file to your computer and install it. Leave your phone unplugged from the usb cable while installing htc Sync. Once done just plug in your evo to usb and run the ruu. Follow the prompts.

I did some more searching and found those same basic instructions somewhere or another, but thanks a million for confirming it for me! This really reminds me of the Winmo ( Wizard and TouchPro ) days, I recall this same basic advice then, but the really cautious people suggested this routine for every flashing session. That's not something I did normally and only once or twice did I do so when something odd popped up. Last night I reapplied the latest radio / wimax / pri update and then updated my profile within the OS, hoping that might help and if not then I will probably be going with this routine.

Also, if you get back to stock and you still experience the problem, take it to sprint. Its a warranty issue and shouldn't cost you a dime to replace it. If your not rooted when you bring it in they have to replace it.

Re: [ Update ] Intermitent wake up problems? Please help!

The odds of receiving another EVO with the same problem are slim but in your case you must have gotten another bad one. I was lucky to never have this issue. My first EVO had a bad issue... it would reboot randomly, for no apparent reason. I went to the Sprint store and they ordered me a brand new phone without hassle.

This is what I would do if I were you. Go to a different corporate Sprint store and show them the problem. When they see what your phone is doing they are going to want to wipe the phone and possibly re-flash it. Let them do it BUT don't leave the store when they give it back to you. Test the phone out for several minutes and if it still does it then tell them to order you a new phone. The hardware 0004 EVO's seem to have all the bugs fixed so tell them you want the latest revision EVO with hardware version 0004. Although there isn't a sure bet on which hardware version you will get, chances are good that you will get a 0004 EVO because that's what is mostly being shipped out lately. You will likely have to wait a couple days to pick up the new phone in the store.

If the Sprint store employees don't accommodate you, then my last recommendation is to call Sprint customer support back and tell them the phone they sent you is defective. They will likely tell you to take it into a corporate store for diagnostics. If you tell the phone rep that you took your phone in to have it checked and they found no problem then they will probably not do anything further, therefore don't say that... Explain to the phone reps that the in-store employees failed to properly diagnose your phone and that you refuse to go back to the store due to their lack of knowledge and they are unwilling to properly trouble shoot your phone. Have the phone rep order you a new EVO and tell them you will ship your current EVO back to Sprint. You might have to be pretty direct and straight to the point with all this... send you a properly working phone or refund the purchase price and give your account its upgrade eligibility back. You should get some positive results either in-store or over the phone with customer support. Go to a different corporate Sprint store. That's what I did and it was 100% hassle-free to get a new EVO ordered due to my issue. Good luck.

Re: [ Update ] Intermitent wake up problems? Please help!

Thanks for your continued assistance first off. So there's no way you think that it could be on the Sprint back end and must be a hardware issue huh? Given how few have reported this the odds seem astronomically slim indeed but nothing is impossible of course. To me it has to be one or the other since this new replacement unit is doing the same thing with no SD or accounts connected after a factory reset. If anybody else has any suggestions then please let me know, otherwise I guess I will be going to another Sprint store, I already told them I wouldn't go to the crappy one I already went to and have the other's address already. Thanks again experts!

I feel confident that its defective hardware. Sprint does not have "back-end" control over your evo like carriers with Blackberry devices. Especially with your touch screen issue, this isn't something Sprint can alter or intervene with anyway. Get you a new phone.

I think lightning struck twice in your case. Take it back to Sprint. If it is in the third phone, I will be real suspicious.
