Rom & Kernel review thread

1) Can we have some sort of best performance rom, and kernel review thread?

Just way too many out there at the moment.

I've tried Myn's rom with King's kernel running for now, and it does what it's supposed to do, and got no complaints, but I can always go for better if there is one out there!

Thanks.

2) I have a question regarding rom and kernel. Flashing a rom flashes kernel it comes with correct? And you can flash different kernels right? Is there a method to just flashing kernel, and does it wipe the phone to factory reset when kernel is only flashed?

Thanks.

Some details can be found here;

HTC Supersonic/ROMs - XDA-Developers

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?...Wc&hl=en#gid=0

There is one more site, I can't find ATM, that someone has online testing many of the roms and kernels and his results.. I'll edit once I find it.

#2 Answer; it is best practice to reset/wipe/clear all cache when flashing a different kernel, not all kernels work with all roms... Custom roms come with a kernel and most rom threads will give you information in the OP when they use a custom kernel. Most kernel threads include some sort of information or help, but YMMV.

P.S. Anyone reading this please drink lots of water, and read them sitting down, as it is known to cause light headedness actually searching and reading this stuff... You have been warned.

Re: Rom & Kernel review thread

will flashing a new kernel wipe all our data off our phones? (contacts, apps, etc.) I never flashed a kernel before so I'm kind of nervous.

Yeah, I've seen, and read a few, but most informations aren't even updated.

As for the kernel flashing, I've read that wiping everything may lead to endless loop, and some suggested only wiping caches, so I wanted to know for sure.

CC's suggesting the wipe, so I guess yes, it will wipe informations, but restoring was kinda easy if you sync with google, and app brain. You do have to input all the passwords etc again for apps that requires it though.

As for flashing kernel, I wiped everything (data to cache), then flashed the rom I wanted, wiped caches (cache, davik cache), then flashed kernel and everything seems like they are working fine. I just read up few things on Myn's rom and liked the looks, and he claimed king's kernel is snappy and good with battery life so I'm giving it a try.

Again, always best to read the chef's original post for information that is best suited for each custom rom/kernel (sanders) and such. To take advantage of tweaks, most chef's will advise complete and repeated cleans/formats/wipes (especially if you have the runs) to avoid any complications, conflickations and or any potentitial life threatening cornflicts..

Most will also advise use of Amon Ra recovery to format/clean/wipe, as many have reported not getting a good wipe even using clockwork repeatedly to do so.. Again,.. YMMV.

P.S. Only you can prevent tropical forrest incendios!

EDIT: Bootloops are incorrect combinations of kernel, rom and or bootloader... Some roms require you have an engineering boot loaded.. i.e. 0.76.2000

EDIT2: Most chef's updates to their own roms/kernels don't always require wipes, but some/most do.

question about the bootloaders. probably not the right place, but I saw it mentioned I do know cm6 requires the .76 bootloader, but does anyone know what Roms if any, don't play nice with. 76? thx guys,

They all work with .76. It has the "features" of others, plus..
