EVO No data while roaming | Unable to authenticate your phone VZW Towers |

Recently I have seen my EVO lose it's data connection while roaming and also received the message "Welcome to Verizon Wireless. We are unable to authenticate your phone. Please try again later" while roaming and making a phone call. I would like to compare notes and find out who else has seen this and what maybe possibly be the culprit.

I don't remember encountering this prior to the new 3.29.651.5 release with updated radios/PRI.

This did happen once before and the issue was resolved by calling Sprint and having them reset data services on their end, but the issue was not able to be resolved on my end. ##3282# Reset Data Profile as well as ##786#, Update Profile etc. did not resolve the issue and only caused me to not have a data connection at all even while not roaming as the phone was not able to provision itself.

I would like to know who has seen this issue and know what PRI, Baseband and Wimax radios they are using. Also, whether or not an Airave/Airave2 is in your home and if you have done a NAND restore from a backup.

Configuration when problem was observed:
Baseband 2.15.00.09.01
Wimax 26023_R01
PRI 1.77_003
PRL 60671

mine does this to .. there is 1 place i go and just drive thru it ( a little town) no data fror me at all .. luckly its only 5-8 mins to drive thru it

this also has happened and still is happeneing . from the 1.32.651.1 release with 2.1

i havent been back to the area sin i updated to PRI 1.77

This happens to me when I have no reception and I have no idea why I cant roam. It's alwys happened to me and I'm all up to date

I have the same problem however I fixed it. First off I have baseband version 2.15.00.09.01 and PRI 1.77_003

Any way I just called sprint and then went through a bunch of steps with the lvl one tech then she bumped me up to lvl II tech who reset some stuff on their side of the network and presto my phone now roams and uses data while roaming no problem. So id just call sprint and make them fix it, worked for me.

Yes they indeed usually can fix it. I have been experimenting trying to recreate the issue and from what I can tell, it seems to happen when a few factors are met (at least for me)

-You are roaming
-You wipe out your data profile (##3282# / ##786#)
-You have service but are not using a Sprint Tower (Using an Airave/Airave2)

The phone seems to be unable to provision correctly unless it uses a Sprint Tower.

I spent an hour on the phone with Sprint going through exactly what you guys mentioned and they could not solve the issue. I finally said "hmm, let me unplug my Airave" and boom, within 10 seconds all was solved. Could be a factor in the initial data setup.
