Ready to root on 2.2. root then OTA or OTA then root.

Newbie on 2.2 unrooted, and ready to root. Can I do the latest OTA then root or do I need to root first then load the new OTA? Just want to root and load stock ROM for now.

Thanks-

Re: Ready to root on 2.2. root then OTA or OTA then root.

I'm a total noob as well, but I unrevoked a day before the update (wasn't paying attention and didn't even know one was coming). Anyway, I manually applied the update as described here and then re-rooted via unrevoked.

I had this same question when it came to my daughter's phone, so I figured since unrevoked is so simple, I might as well root, update, root. Went through the same process earlier on her phone and it worked great.

I was able to manually update my phone from the previous link too. Then I ran unrevoked again and was back in business. You should be able to just do the OTA update on an unrooted phone, then run unrevoked for root.

Re: Ready to root on 2.2. root then OTA or OTA then root.

ALWAYS wait for a rooted OTA. OTA's are a way for Sprint to break root, while dangling the advantages of the upgrade like a drug dealer dangles drugs to an addict. This forum was full of members who broke their root for the 2.2 upgrade, with nothing but blind faith that they'd ever get it back again. And if wireless tether was important, it was a long wait.

What's with this desire for instant gratification, no matter the cost? Be patient, read here, and at XDA, and when a solution comes out, then wait and read some more, for a week or so (it can take that long for some serious issues to come to the forefront). Remember the Unrevoked debacle? A little patience would have saved a lot of people some heartache. Unless being a "crash test dummy" is your goal in life.......
