I only have a little experience with 2.2, because my wife's Evo came with it. I have it rooted with the Stock-rooted ROM, and it is very stable. I'm still waiting for all the bugs to be worked out before I upgrade

Right now, Cyanogenmod is the only AOSP rom for the evo.
