Phone won't sleep - losing patience with my EVO

Ok, yes I love my Evo, but as we know the battery life is horrid. I have a second battery and charger, but still sometimes 2-3 hours tops - when in my pocket. I turn off all the recommended things and I turn sync off.

I have hard reset several times. I kept a log of my apps I put on and the effects. I have System Panel to check too.

Here is the situation. Without adding an app or changing a parameter, after a day or two. my phone will not sleep. Thus the battery runs out real fast.

It seems to coincide with the first launching of the music player, when it builds an initial catalog of my music from the SD card. After that, my phone never sleeps again until a hard reset.

Any suggestions? I'm stock on unrooted 2.2. Other then this issue, I'm very satisfied. I'm considering rooting just to help with this issue and running cyanogen. (I hate the sprint crap and sense anyway .. but that is another topic)

Thanks in advance
Jeff

force turn off the music app in settings>applications>running apps.

i have to do it with iheartradio i dont use it often enough for it to be a PITA though
i also had a problem w/ swype.. thus i removed it and use shapewriter instead. i'm not sure why those 2 apps dont seem to close/work correctly on my phone

Thanks - I found swype to be one of the issues as well, went to Shapwriter as you did. I did stop the music app - still no dice. I hardly have anything installed. Even if I uninstall EVERY app I can - no dice. the OS seems to have been corrupted somehow.

I would root, full with NAND unlocked, install custom rom, install autokiller (free in Market but REQUIRES root) and choose the preset Agressive or Extreme.... Several people have had the same problem and rooting seems to have worked for them. I had a problem with that new gallery apk that was all 3Dish and stuff. I uninstalled that before I rooted and it helped me.

Instead of using the HTC music widget, try using Pure Music Widget. Maybe you won't need all the stuff above.

Re: Phone won't sleep - losing patience with my EVO

Have you done a hard reset yet? I ask as I use the HTC music widget and have about 10 gigs of music on my SD card. I do not have any issue with it draining battery life or keeping my phone awake. I have seen a hard reset fix a lot of weird issues that people have had with the Evo, so I figured I'd bring it up.

I hear if you copy the entire contents of your SD card to your computer... format the SD card, and copy back, sometimes that helps your exact issue. Let me know.

Ah... I see it now, it wasn't showing up as "Pure Music" I had to type the whole thing.
