open up the HTC Music app, press menu then you will have the option to "set as ringtone" and you can also Trim the ringtone with the built in Ringtone trimmer.

Brinked.com, Zedge.net, or Cellware.com are great free sites.
In your SD card, go to Media>Audio> then create new folder, name it Ringtones. Drag and drop your mp3 ringtones into the folder. Some say you need to reboot your phone, but I did not have to. www.zedge.net...or download the app in the market...I use that site alot and the app allows you to listen to the audio before downloading it. You can also get a program called Audiocity on your PC and edit a mp3 or music file you have and then save it and put it on your phone.
