Re: New Voice Actions on Android 2.2

I haven't had any major issues with this new app. The only issue that I had was the same that some other people are having, when trying to dial a person in my phone. I say "dial john doe" and it just stays there looking for that person. For some reason they have to get the dial thing straighten out. The navigate to feature works flawlessly. Used it on my vacation this past weekend and i loved it. For those that are having issues I would check if you have any other programs that take voice commands and delete and then try it again. So far this program is pretty cool.

I am using it directly from the phones microphone and it's damn near flawless.
This is not a language problem. If I want it to recite what I'm saying it gets it pretty damn close. The only time it doesn't work is with the actions. Example:

I say: "Call Janis on Mobile"
It responds with: "call 946-7825"

Seriously?

Now, if I pull of a note pad and say "Call Janis on Mobile"
It responds with: "call janice on mobile"

So, if it was a language issue, it would mince the second attempt as well.

The only thing I can figure is that it is somehow or why not recognizing ANY of my contacts. I'm using Exchange, not Google. I will not use Google. So, as far as I'm concerned, this thing is crap. Not unless, they fix this obvious bug, that apparently many people are having.

It's pretty cool and better integrated than 2rd party apps.

Re: New Voice Actions on Android 2.2

i noticed you have to have a google contact type to use the call, text, email feature. what i did was go into contacts adding the same name, number, and email as a google contact type. the phone will then automatically link(if not just manually do it) the phone and google contact types together. Once you do this your voice search should work a'lot more accurately.

Re: New Voice Actions on Android 2.2

Found the answer why it would put the names under the message instead of the "to" box. Most of us turned off contact Google sync to save battery, but the contact Google sync must be active to work properly! So go to accounts/sync in menu settings and turn on Google contact sync and it will put contacts in the correct field and call contacts correctly.

Re: New Voice Actions on Android 2.2

I found that if you sync your contacts with google, voice search works like a champ. So if you add a contact and just put it on the phone, it doesn't recognize what your saying and it just spews out random shit.

I hate using Gmail for contacts, or even outlook for that matter. I would rather just make .vcards and back them up and restore when needed.

Re: New Voice Actions on Android 2.2

Man, I just deleted all my contacts out of google, cause it was messing up my person widget (s) by eliminating all my contact pics, and essentially doubling my contacts, with "blank" pics on my phone; which was crap.

I too don't want to use Google for contacts, because as a business user, I use exchange...now I don't know what I will do
