OMG..Help....Please Chime in

I just received a new evo..replacement,I am an android noob... I am asking what do u experienced users think, should i root the new phone and flash a custom froyo rom? I ask beacaus i am comming from years of wm, and roms were a lot of times glitchy, i didnt start flashing until i got the tp2...and I was a 3year user by then..lol. R the custom roms much better because comming from wm I am totally satisfied with the stock rom, I am totaly confused on what to do and i dont wanna miss out on any goodies from a cooked rom
