Since it sounds like you can't root just yet the advice above to spend time reading is the best thing you can do. I was on WM for years and fairly comfortable with flashing but the move to Androi

With all that said, I say ROOT! It opens up a whole new world and with serious talent in the Android community only more good things down the road. I'm running OMJ's ROM and could not be happier.

i can root that is why I was asking my old phone with the broke mic, has froyo, the new phone has the original stock rom so I am really curious, I have been reading and the whole root thing for android seems intensive especially the toast method, and then having to download new radios, do u know if any1 has a packaged rom with the new radios and wi-max?

I came from a couple winmo phones and since i went evo i havent rooted (yet) and (for now) i am happy with stock roms. Thats just my personal opinion but its really up to you what you do. Good luck and Enjoy!

this is how I live^ if im unsure about anything i research until i have read everything! but me personally in the case of rooting..I got my Evo on jun 11th around 1pm..i was rooted running custom rom by 130pm, not jokin either I did my research way in advance i literally spent all of like 10mins on the stock rom. all that mattered to me was the Evo Root was stable, an comin from a TP2 thats all i needed to know...This phone is still the best device out Stock or not...I jus like/NEED the freedom of root, access to more options & apps, tryin different roms/supporting the devs, themes etc.. I say jus give it a try this thing is pretty much impossible to brick an if u feel its not for u or u jus dont utilize any features of being rooted (like 70% of ppl )..jus simply utilize the official update an go stock but either way no matter wut any of us say, its ur decision ..an u kno ur gonna try it anyway

Once root is available for the latest stock ROM I would recommend doing so. Read up in the upgrade forums in the different ROM threads and choose a few that you would like to try.

With a proper nandroid backup, absolutely nothing is irreversible. Try anything you want (ROM, theme, mod, etc) and if you don't like it or have problems, just do a nandroid restore and you are off and running again in minutes.

I'm pretty much in the same boot as you. I was a 3 year WM user, finally unlocked and flashed with my TP2. I just switched to Android with the Evo. I'm rooted. Honestly, I don't see the big deal. Yeah it's easy to do, and opens up a few options. But for me, the only real benefit I've seen is free wifi tether. Sure all the bloatware is removed....but does that really matter with this phone? It's fast no matter what. So the choice is kind of yours.
