OMG..Help....Please Chime in

I just received a new evo..replacement,I am an android noob... I am asking what do u experienced users think, should i root the new phone and flash a custom froyo rom? I ask beacaus i am comming from years of wm, and roms were a lot of times glitchy, i didnt start flashing until i got the tp2...and I was a 3year user by then..lol. R the custom roms much better because comming from wm I am totally satisfied with the stock rom, I am totaly confused on what to do and i dont wanna miss out on any goodies from a cooked rom Many thanks comming!

Well first of all stock android is about 12346342324 times more stable and smoother than a stock winmo device so the rush to flash a custom rom woudn't be as bad. But more importantly if you phone came with stock froyo then you can't root anyway so you will have to deal with it being stock for the time being until one of these geniuses around here figure out how to root a stock evo with froyo.

Root...Root...Root...

I also came from wm world. The roms on the Evo are a totally different class. There are no stability issues on the custom roms. I would recommend trying the latest Fresh Rom. It is incredible.

muffinman's right....if you're on stock froyo, you cannot flash to custom froyo...at least not yet, not until froyo has been rooted

If you can root... ROOT!

If you can't root... Then wait until you can, then... ROOT!

Re: OMG..Help....Please Chime in

I too came from wm after years of use, but it was always hacked and unlocked until my last 10 months of use. I found the stock 6.1 for the touch pro more stable and user friendly. Of course. I was using all the hacks and mods i could stock and locked, but spb ms made it livable. Sprint ep was eager to get me into device and show me how the home screens worked, til i showed her my pro did the same. Onr evo i was getting 2-4 hours on a charge so i rooted and nanded it. Then you can flash custpm roms, but they will be buggy. Did overclock, advanced task killer set to crazy every half hour and security set to low. sometimes got 2 days on a charge. But sometimes. i couldn't answer my phone as it just would ring and slider would not respond. alarm clock wouldn't go off, and no notifiications sounded off. running htc ota full root odexed 2.2 froyo rom netarchey launched on xda and things have been better. WM i could do wired tether locked and stock, 2.1 rooted has wireless and 2.2 does not "yet".

My recommendation is to spend lots of time reading the threads in this forum....READ AND READ some more until your comfortable. Good luck. Im still learning too.

I could not agree more. The fact that you're asking makes me think you'll benefit from some serious time reading the many posts on the root process and what custom ROMs are available. When/if you are ready you'll have no doubt!

Since it sounds like you can't root just yet the advice above to spend time reading is the best thing you can do. I was on WM for years and fairly comfortable with flashing but the move to Android was a new world. I spent weeks reading before attempting to root.

With all that said, I say ROOT! It opens up a whole new world and with serious talent in the Android community only more good things down the road. I'm running OMJ's ROM and could not be happier.

Are the issues you experienced in the custom froyo roms
