Idea for Evo's 4G

Since 4G drains the **** out of your battery, I wonder if there is any way to have it automatically turn on when you start a browsing session and turn off when it's idle for a minute. I personally don't have the skills but maybe someone else does.

Re: Idea for 4G

The only issue would be data. Almost every app that required it is running, even if you killed with atk, then google sync for email would always be on and other google apps that launch on own. You wouldn't be idle long enough to shut off 4g.

Re: Idea for 4G

That's a good point but what if you set it to only turned on when you launched the web browser or youtube. If you could have it automatically shut off after the browser has been running for a minute or 2. Those are really the only programs you need 4G for. 3g is sufficient for everything else.

Re: Idea for 4G

Another problem is 4g takes forever to launch.. About 30 seconds

4g is comparible to WiFi in battery life! I was in Vegas and had 4g all day on a single charge, It all depends on signal.

Re: Idea for 4G

Why don't you use BatteryDefender + Juice Defender.

Kills your data connection when it's idle or when the screen is off.

But if you were watching a vid longer then 2 min, or went to potty while reading a post here you would shut off with no actual activitity. Unless you tapped into the youtube app that shows activity and keeps phone awake while watching. The concept is a great idea, but you have to think of a way of keeping it going while phone is sleeping while it thinks phone is awake unless you set sceen off timer longer than the timeout for the app being made. Either way it would keep device awake until you pressed power button or 4g was not avail.

Re: Idea for 4G

In the future 4g will work like 3g. Right now the towars are to stretched out and the constant searchign for signal is what kills the battery. If you get 4g and you dont loose signal your gonna be good. If you live in an area with spoty 4g its just gonna kill your battery. Its not gonna be more then a year or two max before 4g isnt killing the battery and is better integrated into the phone. This is all just a side effect of having the latest and greatest.

Re: Idea for 4G

Actually i'm pretty sure this might be possible already with some tweaking of your own...

Theres this app called Tasker on the marketplace that lets set commands to do a bunch of automatic stuff like this. So why not use that? you do have to pay for the app, but seeing the things it can do, i wouldn't mind.

Re: Idea for Evo's 4G

The best way to save battery is root the phone and install SetCPU and set it up so when the screen turns off the phone down clocks to 300 MHz. Pair that program with a custom ROM that uses low voltage and your Evo can last for 2 days probably even more.

I'm calling official "DL Shenanigans" on that.
