Another How To

Some have advised that you rename the file as well, to update.zip - be sure you don't name it update.zip.zip) 2. Shutdown Phone - hold the power button, select SHUT DOWN 3. Hold Down Power and Volume Down button 4. Wait for screen to to load up and it to do it's searching for file thing. - at this point a screen will come up with three little Androids at the bottom and 4 options. 5. You need to use the volume button to rock down to RECOVERY. For those of you who don't read, like me. 6. Once you get to picture of phone with red exclamation mark hold Volume Up and then press Power. 7. At this point, I had a black screen with 4 options. I believe the actual text said "recover from update.zip" 8. Currently I am at this stage and the screen is black with bright yellow text starting with "--Install from sdcard...." then Finding... Opening... Verifying... Installing... Verifying current... Removing unneeded files... Patching.... Unpacking new files... Symlinks and permissions... (above takes 3-4 minutes) Reboot via menu to complete installation. After I did this, I got this message: Writing zip image... (approx 2 minutes) Now I have a screen with two green arrows in a circle and a downward arrow above an image of the device which has shown up and gone black several times. (approx 5 minutes) HTC EVO 4G reboot screen - several times (approx 1-2 minutes) Phone is rebooting with Sprint sound/logo 4g - (phone is plugged into power and is a bit warm, it's hanging on this screen for longer than usual, but I'm typing this, so I'm distracting myself from freaking out. Congratulations! Your phone has been updated successfully to version 3.26.651.3 (with my live wallpaper and time, date, carrier in the background until you click "OK") Once you click "OK" it will go to an HTC screen with a percentage in the center and once that finishes you get a little keyboard tutorial. I skipped it and now I have another "loading" screen. Slowly, all of my widgets and icons are loading on the home screen. I think I'm done! I hope this helps some of you who are timid about updating - I know I am very intimidated by messing with my phone's system. I don't flash ROM's because I prefer to stick with my carrier's updates because of past issues with Palm, Windows Mobile and Blackberry. Android just seems to be easier in every single aspect, including this one, which is why I went ahead and gave it a try.

Re: Htc froyo updates!
All apps are there already. This update doesn't erase anything. I took the plunge an hour ago. Not rooted and I don't use wifi tether so I figured what the hell.

Re: Htc froyo updates!
It doesn't? Maybe those of us that rooted are stuck at 1.34. Not sure it matters, my phone on Damage Control 3.2.3. works great, and I didn't even upgrade the radio. I'm still on 1.36.00.04.02. Everything works fine. Is there a good reason I should update the radio (and WiMax)? Not even sure how to......

Re: Htc froyo updates!
Does this add/fix bluetooth hid so you can use bluetooth controllers? I just finished hacking my evo with a custom rom and loaded up the bluetooth wii controller to it. plays great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90TIdsj5_sQ
but If a legit rom has the bluetooth hid fixed I might go back to that - Im having issues with the custom rom and my voicemail |
