A fully functional rooted version IS NOT the same as developing a root process for the official OTA to gain root after the fact-in case you thought that is what I was saying.
So everyone who buys Evo with Sprint/HTC 2.2 already installed is screwed?

Re: Htc froyo updates!

Sprint will begin sending update notifications to users in waves beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3 and the upgrade should be available for all HTC EVO 4G users by the middle of August.

The notification will let the users know that the update is available and it will provide the simple two-step over-the-air download process.

1. Users will receive a notification that Android 2.2 is available for download.
2. Once the user has downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. The user will be notified that their device will be disabled during the installation process. The phone will be ready to use once the process completes.

For those who just can't wait to get Android 2.2 (and lose root), there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade. Customers can access the software update through their HTC EVO 4G under the Settings Menu System Updates HTC Software Update. This will initiate the three-step process also.

In terms of root? Maybe, like I said, it could be regained in a day, a week, or never. If you already have root why would you risk losing it? Just doesnt make sense to me.
To me it makes more sense to wait a few days and keep root. Some, like radar, are willing to risk it. To each his own. He is making an educated decision, he knows what he is doing. A LOT of users were completely unaware with the last OTA so it seems prudent to put the word out to educate them.

EDIT:

Yeah..........no biggie for me! The only reason I rooted in the first place was to try out 2.2 and the flash 10.1 (I don't use the hotspot and I could never tether on Android).......but that was a bummer for me kinda......now the official release of froyo.........what more can I say?!

And I thought Froyo was supposed to crush every other OS and also was supposed to take care of what a lot of people were complaining about with 2.1?! If thats the case than coming from WM6.5 I'M GOOD.............because when I got to Android I was blown away!

Semper Fidelis (Always Faithful) is the motto of the Corps. That Marines have lived up to this motto is proved by the fact that there has never been a mutiny, or even the thought of one, among U.S. Marines.
