How does the EVO become a "bricked" phone

So i was reading on a couple threads and i keep seeing the phrase bricked phone. now i understand once its bricked your phone is pretty much useless. I read fastrx8's post on this but some of it still didn't make sense to me (sorry fastrx

would anyone like to elaborate on this for all android noobs? that way people are aware of what happens when you flash incorrectly, don't do a clean wipe, etc.

Whatever you do, do not power your phone off after you've sent a text message. Insta-brick.

Re: How does the EVO become a "bricked" phone

A text message ?

Are you serious...Is that even believable ???

There are plenty of ways to "brick" your phone best thing I can say is follow all instructions word for word keep reading on it and you won't have to worry about bricking it. Something to keep in mind is never pull the battery during a update/upgrade...and make sure you are fully rooted before attempting to flash..

Also I might add that as long as you can get into bootloader you are never considered brick...

If for say some reason you end up loading a ROM and get stuck in a bootloop which is the boot up animation playing over and over...Don't worry your still not bricked read through the forums here and xda...

really after a freakin text? thats kind of weird. the pulling out battery one seems to make sense because you're updating system files so ya.

anyone know of other ways?
thanks a lot so far!

Re: How does the EVO become a "bricked" phone

I'm not believing the hype on the text message...because I have a paid app called "text bomber" and it only allows 100 messages at a time so I send them then re-boot and do it again...for fun and games...now if that bricked my phone...I can't even dignify this with a response!!!

Re: How does the EVO become a "bricked" phone

It is hard to brick EVO because you can always fall back to bootloadeer and reflash. The only way to brick it would be to erase bootloader, but non of the guides I've seen do anything that can cause this. I would say it is pretty safe to play with EVO
