Is their an EASY way to get an Evo for a friend, and make it identical to yours?

I'm still thinking of getting my wife an Evo (she's still loving her Mogul), and to make it simple (since she is not tech savvy at all), I'd like to make it a near-clone of mine, layout-wise, settings, etc. Only her email will be unique. That way, I can easily remotely talk her through issues on the phone, since hers will essentially be like mine (yes, there is still space on some of the pages to add things she may want). It's getting hard to talk her through issues on the Mogul when I'm away (not that there is many, it's mostly a phone to her), because I barely remember how to use it lol

And she doesn't need the paid apps I have, because she wouldn't use them anyway, like Documents to Go.

Maybe get hers, root it the same, and copy my SD Card to hers, Restore from Titanium? Of course, the paid apps wouldn't validate anyway, and could then be deleted. And she can modify if she wants. But I would just like a "starting point" that is nearly identical, including in screen layout, without downloading over 100 apps 1 by 1, setting up all the screens one icon at a time, all the settings, etc. Too many hours of work, if there is an easier way.

Any ideas?

Re: Is their an EASY way to get an Evo for a friend, and make it identical to yours?

1.smoke one!
1.1 do a full (NAND) root.
2. uninstall any protected (paid for apps)
3. you would need to be signed out of your gmail account and remove it... which you cant because itll tell you that a gmail account is required... my fix would be to add your friends' gmail to your phone. sure you could do it later on but why not do it at a molecular level
3.nand backup from source Evo
3.1 something good to read during all the NAND work : http://www.drugwarrant.com/articles/...juana-illegal/
4.nand restore to target Evo
5.device self service the target Evo
6.check and find out if the ESN was written too... which i highly doubt since its a whole other part of the phone, but just saying... check!
7.smoke one!

Well, that's one solution. I don't have any interest in having my phone "down" at all, though. Even though I rooted, and NANDed, I don't even know what NAND stands for or what it does or means. Got a long way to go yet on this Android stuff

Yeah, SPB Backup was great. Some like Sprite too, and Sprite is now available for Android, but the Evo isn't listed as being supported yet. SPB is working on their version. Those are programs well worth the money.

What the hell are you talking about? Doing a back up is as easy as three 3 or four steps, and with rom manager 1 step. Nand Backing up thru rom manager is way easier then spb backup.

If they are both rooted then you can use ROM Manager to make an update then take SD card out put it in the other phone and run the restore backup and it will be exactly what your is.

Great. I'll get back to you when I get the other Evo. I still don't even know what "NAND" is or means.

NAND Flash architecture is one of two flash technologies (the other being NOR) used in memory cards such as the CompactFlash cards. It is also used in USB Flash drives, MP3 players, and provides the image storage for digital cameras. NAND is best suited to flash devices requiring high capacity data storage. NAND flash devices offer storage space up to 512-MB and offers faster erase, write, and read capabilities over NOR architecture.

an THIS is how you do it.

I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. On WM, using SPB Backup on the first device, I could click Full Backup (Step 1). When that finished, transfer that file to a brand new identical device (Step 2), and click on that file (Step 3). The file SPB Backup had made was a self-extracting executible that made an exact duplicate of the 1st phone, including every setting, including ringer choices, alarm sound, whatever (even where the alarm was set at). Every single program was installed, and every setting within every program was identical. Every page, background, every single characteristic, was identical.

You didn't need SPB Backup installed first on the new device, nothing. It included itself in the self-extracting executible file. Since it was a paid piece of software, it installed itself as trial mode, which was full featured, but limited to number of days or number of uses. Any other paid software brought over would likely also go into trial mode once launched, but no big deal, there was very little software that wasn't free.

You wouldn't even know it was a different phone. How could anything possibly be easier than that, much less more comprehensive in every little detail? We aren't talking PIM Backup here......
