Sense v. Non sense

Im coming from WM6.5 and the inclusion of sense is very apparent. What is sense exactly on Android? Using a G1 doesnt really help either as the only thing I was able to see was that the HTC clock wasnt there. What else is the difference? Thanks in advance

Re: Sense v. Non sense

It's their "take" on the UI that came standard from Android. Think of it like a custom skin (sort of) that you can also modify and alter (to a point). For example, you can't have floating icons anywhere on the screen, you can't have overlapping icons, it's a very regimented look and feel.

Then, you get other homescreen launchers and you can change how things look, not how they behave, you can change what they do when you press or long-press on them. I know everyone says how functional and how wonderful the look-and-feel is in Android, I think it's very buttoned-up and the perfect example of letting the developers tell you what the UI should look like. This is always a problem when you let the developers make design decisions. There needs to be more thought-out UI decisions in Sense, but I'm sure I'll hear from many who disagree with me.

I too came from WM6x and I was a little surprised as how little customization was allowed in the screens. For example, can't even have folders in the applications page where you can store applications. The fact that it's taking until 2.2 to store applications on the SD card is mind-boggling to me.

Android seems like a garage experiment and we're all the guinea pigs. This, in my opinion, comes from the "open" architecture world mentality. Yet, it's really not or else you wouldn't have to root your phone to uninstall bloatware.

Again, all my .02 (devalued American)

I know that sense is merely a UI but what programs are associated with sense? It seemed like the G1 had the same programs as my evo minus the bloatware.

If that's the level you're asking for have you looked at the actual Android OS forums at google and ask there?

The facebook from htc sense app is from sense :P You have the wrong idea. The bloatware is from the carrier, not HTC. Sense is just another interface that you deal with as a user. I sort of like the regimented feel of it, but if this cyanogen ROM is as amazing as the nightly build fanatics say it's going to be, I might drop sense like a lead weight for some nice smooth froyo action.

Is there a sense.apk that we can install over it or at the very least Facebook for sense.apk so I can sync my contact pics?

Not dogging you at all with what I am going to say so dont take it the wrong way.

With windows 6.1 downloading things wasnt as popular as downloading is on android. Most of us used cab files to customise our phones and most of us had some no how. Even still I can recall several post by people saying oh man this and that dont work and why not. And sometimes these problems came from people installing things on there SD card that shouldnt be installed on the SD card but instead should be installed in the main memory. Anyway not everything can be installed on the SD card somethings have to be installed on the main memory. I see lots of problem posts coming in the futur once 2.2 is actually released lol. Features are great and nowing how to use them is important unfortunantly commen sense and reading directions is for "da stupid" now days lol. Anyway bring on froyo and lets get this party started.

Re: Sense v. Non sense

Why make fun of windows? If my old Tp2 had a snapdragon and all this storage it could have done just as much as my evo if not more. Windows phones seem to have the ability to do anything. I can remember back in the day people saying how great there iphone was and all I could do was look at them in confusion because everything they pointed out to I already had the ability to do on my windows phone.

One nice thing about android is its finger friendly. I am loving android and probably wont go back to windows for a good bit considering all the confusion with what they want to do and how long its going to take them lol. But seriously windows is a true smart phone. You can do anything with a windows phone heck android is locked down even after being rooted compaired to my old windows phones.

All I am saying is dont knock windows and if that comment was in reply to my post. It wasnt windows fault there are stupid people thinking they could put a file that ran off the system from start up on there SD card and it would read it as though it was on the phone and not the SD card. Windows didnt assume we where all stupid and protect us from our stupidity by not allowing us the ability to put files on our SD card. Google may not assume we are stupid either they could have just been using there better judge ment. I mean most apps are small and can be placed on a phone with a lot of space without issue so why go the other route and make it a hastle. More even the big games or files like asphalt store on the SD anyway. Its a 90mb game and its not hogging my phones memory because it automaticly stores on my memory card.
