Syncing to two computers

This is getting furstrating...for years I've had two computers and two phones. I have always maintained my contacts and calendar on my work computer and phone, and then synched from the phone to my personal laptop, overwriting the existing data, and then syncing to my personal phone. It was a little cumbersome, but it limited conflicts and I only did the personal sync about once per week. This worked through Palm, WinMo and Blackberry phones.

Now I have the EVO. It's syncing fine with Exchange at work, but I'm having major problems syncing to my laptop. I downloaded the latest HTC sync...I've reset the EVO twice now. I've had the conflict resolution set to "use latest" and "keep phone overwrite PC." Both are performing the same: I'm not getting any syncing from the phone to the PC, but all of the records that were in the PC are now duplicating into the EVO. Fortunately they are not syncing from the EVO into our corporate Exchange Server.

So I'm about to reset the EVO again and just keep everything for work seperate from home and accept that I'll only be able to keep my calendar and contacts updated in one location (at work.) If I ever lose my job, I'm screwed. So much for the great Android operating system...I just did a guarantee exchange out of my Blackberry 9650 into the EVO - I wonder if Sprint will let me do it again and go back to the Blackberry?

You seriously can't sync your contacts? If theyre on your phone then they synced automagically with your gmail account you created when you got the phone.

Seriously? No. I was trying to sync from my Exchange server at work, to the EVO and then from the EVO to Outlook on my personal PC. That wasn't working - I was getting duplicate records on the EVO, and nothing was going to the PC. I had sync to gmail turned off because I don't use it. It wouldn't be a perfect solution, but it would at least give me a backup, so I turned Gmail sync on after reading your post. The EVO says it synced to Gmail, but when I go to Gmail, there's nothing there.

Might have to give it a few, but it works.

Re: Syncing to two computers

I stopped using outlook for my email/calendar/contacts a few months ago. I sync with and use gmail now, and it is SO much easier. I use thunderbird for email and my calendar.
I rarely attach my phone to my PC, everything is synced quickly and easily over the air. I am not sure how this method works with exchange, however.

Re: Syncing to two computers

How long should it take the first time? I synced the EVO with Gmail yesterday afternoon, and when I go to Gmail this morning, I still have no contacts or calendar entries. I wonder if our corporate exchange server security policies prevent syncing with Gmail? I might have to look into that tomorrow.
