HTC Email Reply Regarding Frame Rates, Screen Separation, and Froyo 2.2
Dear bC6,
Dear bC6, Since the HTC EVO 4G employs a unique HDMI output to deliver video in HD quality to an external display, the hardware graphics driver interface on the HTC EVO 4G uses significant resources for the HDMI output and therefore displays graphics at 30 frames per second on the integrated display. This is a hardware, and not a software, limitation. It’s important to keep in mind that content including most movies and television, are created to run at between 24 and 30 frames per second. The 30FPS is a hardware limitation. We have found that some games may be impacted by this limitation. For the Screen Separation issue HTC has received some reports regarding this issue, and are currently analyzing the potential causes. Most customers are not reporting any issue related to this problem. The issue appears to be cosmetic and should not affect the operation of the device. Additional information will be provided after we finish our investigation of the issue. If your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. Yeah I personally like the part about the 30 FPS cap being hardware related and not a software issue, and yet the XDA devs have been able to modify the software and lift the cap. Yeah, obviously it isn't a software issue.

I guess HTC knows how to "Copy and Paste" like the rest of us. You know if 30fps is a limitation because of HDMI why don't they just give us a way to turn it off. So when I'm playing disable HDMI and BAM! get 40 - 50 fps when I want to watch a movie BAM!! 30 fps. Makes sense if you ask me. Of course when does a company do something that makes sense?

Got that same message from HTC last night. I hate what HTC does to video out and the drivers. They screwed with the Mogul, TP, and TP2, and now the EVO. So what go is 4g when we only get 30fps.

I think that HTC's engineers got their degree from an ad off an Uncle Ben's Minute Rice box.....

Corporations buy the governments services on a regular basis. Lobby this, lobby that. Show me the money and I can fold like a lawn chair. I believe the corps prefer shades of mediocrity. Thanks Mr. Simon.
