Re: All Discussions regarding the OTA update (Sprint re-released the update - 6/29)

why would ANYONE with full root and access to nand backup want to unroot and apply the OTA?? When you can flash any and all custom ROMs that are out there?? Especially when there is a couple of VERY stable Froyo ROMs out there (no camera and no bt as of now)

I don't understand the thinking why someone wants to go back to a locked device....after they had it unlocked and had the freedom to do whatever they wanted with it...

I had a TP2...I didn't even bother to flash back to stock to get the 6.5 update when I was already running a very good 6.5.3. Same goes for my iDevices...I won't update those to their new iOS4 until jailbreak is readily available.

Complaining about the OTA now is too late. be patient and wait...once root is possible again...it'll be all over the forum.

BTW...I have amazing battery life running a Avalaunch's EVOlution V9 (an Android 2.2 ROM) think Froyo is so much better on the battery.

I have not performed the OTA update yet. I have read somewhere that the bit rate of the video was changed from 6mb to 8mb. Can anyone confirm this and if so, did it help with the video quality?

Does this stupid update do it self after declining it several times ? Can someone place the update info here so I can check if it did it on its own please. My evo started acting up im hoping that piece of %#@& update didnt do itself. >.< first widget not working is my overclock widget, which saved - me more than 75% battery...

The OTA is evil, but it does not do itself. Someone has to accept the update.

Go to
Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Information>Software Number. If it says "1.47.651.1" you have the OTA update. If it says "1.32.651.1" or "1.32.651.6" you're still on the old stuff.

You can stop your phone from looking for updates by going to
Menu>Settings>System Updates>HTC software update and un-check "Scheduled check"

BTW - The OTA has been rooted. The instructions are on XDA if you're familiar w/ ADB and I re-wrote them for n00b's.
Here's the link to my instructions - http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.p...&postcount=792

the OTA update, does it get rid of apps you've installed?

I know people have said they they are getting better speeds and range as far as wifi goes. My range seems to be the same but my speeds have tanked big time. Before the update I was getting 13meg down and 3.5meg up all day everyday using my wifi at home. Now since the update, my upload speeds are the same but I will be lucky if I get 2meg down. Its late, been drinking slightly and I don't feel like reading through 30 pages so sorry if it has been mentioned before. Anyone else getting crappy speeds on their wifi since the update?
