Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?
muahahaha.....n1...im not that bad.....but i certainly couldn't pass for a member of the Bee Gee's either...... x
No it was not a paid task killer. But reading that article from the post saying "it's true" just leads me to believe that if we can do just about anything with our phones, why couldn't sprint "borrow" this feature from google. http://www.h-online.com/security/new...e-1029188.html Last edited by meccadon123; 06-26-2010 at 09:25 PM. |

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?
This thread is absurd and it's bringing out a lot of paranoia in people. Sprint definitely does not have access to our market downloads, but Google does, since it's there market. WinMo, Google, and Apple all have the ability to remotely delete apps if they need to. The article in question mentions the ONLY time google has used this ability. The app was already removed from the marketplace, so they were just cleaning up loose ends. If they were to find that they helped distribute a harmful piece of software, they could help by removing it from everyone's devices. I think as long as that ability is used wisely, it can be a good thing.
Or you can be like this guy: |

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?
Regarding the original post, I have no reason to doubt the story as it's explained. I also believe Rainfreak's contact. So the discrepancy is a mystery, but I don't see a need to be paranoid about this.
For starters, in terms of privacy, you're giving up a large amount just using a Google service, because their entire business operation is centered around "index everything" and making everything accessible. But, we all know this, it's why we use their search engine or services to begin with... we want access to everything. Also, think of all the services you use... Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Flickr, etc... even with the tightest restrictions, you still have connections and friends that you share with, and that gets shared, and the moment you walk outside and interact with people you begin sharing things about yourself. Point is this... it's something we have to make a conscious choice to minimize our privacy risks. We set the privacy settings we can, and we think twice before we click download, and pay attention to which apps grant which rights. Oh, and if I were a betting man, I'd bet that one of the Sprint stock apps is violating the Sprint/Google terms of service agreements...

Exactly!! The entire point of this thread was NOT to have everyone start putting on foil hats. The rep mentioned my DL' of ATK so i immediately thought he could see me using "wireless tether" and i thought i might get hit with fee's of some sort. I honestly didn't know if it was an android thing (coming from winmo) and i figured some1 with android experience would say , hey if you have -blank- app open, or if you use the market they can see what you DL'd. i honestly did not know and did not intend for this to be a "the sky is falling" thread. Now that I assume that they can't see me tethering for free i don't care what they can see. Thank everyone for their input, whether you called me a "bs"er or if you saw my point. i appreciate all the feed back from everyone. Remember, if you hear a knock at your door, it's NOT the cell phone hack division of the FBI, but you didn't hear that from me. Please return to your normal lives and remember big brother is watching. This portion of my post is a joke, please do not flood the thread with links proving that big brother is NOT watching. |

Re: Sprint rep knew i DOWNLOADED TASK KILLER?
I skimmed to this thread..and wanted to point out that if I remember correctly there was a rumor that the manufacturer and the carrier actually get commission from the apps downloaded and the adwords....this is part of why android has been so popular in 2010....
So it is either they actually have a log of what you have, or they can check what is installed on the device...but even if they find tether on it they can't do anything about it..it does not violate your contract or anything else to have it installed... But you should probably call up and ask...
